Callaway RAZR X Hybrid

When I first started golf, like many beginners I could not handle a driver. I was grateful that my late uncle Lum passed me his used Callaway Warbird 3-wood which I kept till this day.

Then I was hitting this lovely 3-wood as my driver and it went further than others' driver and so I remember Callaway well and thanks to my uncle.

I also couldn't agree more with Ely Callaway, founder of Callaway Golf that golf is really about that occasional good shot and thus his way of producing golf clubs that are suppose to go straighter and farther and above all - very user-friendly and forgiving.

However, Callaway was a late comer in introducing hybrid clubs but they did make the Heaven wood. In 2011, they introduced the RAZR X using a heat treating process making the face 18% thinner than the previous model the Callaway Diablo Edge. Callaway remains a huge name in golf with their range of products.

Callaway RAZR X Hybrid

These hybrids are built using Callaway technologies made famous in their other clubs such as "VFT" or "Variable Face Thickness" which basically helps in increasing the size of the sweet spot resulting in more distance generated. They are also built with a zero roll technology that allows for higher launch angle even when hit lower on the face.

When hitting it off the fairway,  it appears shallow and the ball looks as if they are teed up at address.

It has a classic black finish on the crown and features a stainless steel club head construction with a slight offset while the Tour version with less offset will be for better players. The sole design is the reason why you can hit it from all lies even on tight fairways to deep rough. The sole is a winner here. Two other things caught my attention - (1) It is simple at address, put it down and it sits naturally and you are ready to hit. (2) It appears to wrap around the ball with masculinity to give one confidence.

Golfers should see straight and high shots when using this hybrid. Many brands and models will claim theirs are forgiving, straight and long but the Callaway RAZR X hybrid is not only that, it is very dependable and consistent. Like singing Karaoke where the machines make your voice sound better than it really is. It has been designed to go high and land soft - parachute landing for distance control and precision.

The greatest strength in this hybrid to me seems to be its ability to hit very straight shots. That is its forte. These are accurate sticks and when hit on the screws produce laser-like shots. It may not be the longest distance but to me hitting it straight and more often on the sweet spot is the key to longer distance. so it shall be.

Good strikes produce a soft feel to your hands while the weight is balanced in the hands. It is not overbearing and can be considered sleek but a few may not like the slight offset but this is exactly what is needed for the club to be user-friendly otherwise you and I will just be friendly users.

Originally inspired by prototypes developed with Phil Mickelson, the RAZR X's are manufactured with a new heat treatment process that reduces face thickness for higher ball speed.

More forgiving than your grandmother, it is so easy to use even ladies could use them. They come in 21, 24 and 27 degrees while Tour version comes in 18, 21 and 24 degrees. It is so sweet it can be your go to club. I would love to check out the Tour version as this is a power tool, a powerful tool indeed!

Golf as in life, play as it lies!
