All over Singapore, old shop houses are getting a makeover. The old economy of simplicity are no longer enough as new money pours in. New Western styled restaurants, bars and bistros are sprouting up everywhere? Besides the possibility fighting dementia in the distant future, how are we going to find our childhood memories where a large part of us are no longer in existence?  Are changes in the name of change really good? Search me. Some times, other than old school, I would patronise new joints, Arty farty places. Places where the young goes. So we decided to visit a small cafe and planned to be there earlier because besides being a small place, it is hard to find a parking space for cars. We went to Lola. Lola is probably a name of Spanish origin, meaning strong woman. A type where once she's in your heart she'll be there for a long time, maybe forever. There is a new restaurant at Kovan simply called "Knuckles" next to the Nakhon Kitchen. We were early and came exactly at opening time but found it still closed. So we saw a couple of people outside whom we thought could be their staff and enquired. It was our good fortune that they immediately retrieved the shutters. I saw that this place is probably owned by the same man who owns Nakhon Kitchen.  If you ever come around here, make sure you order this mushroom salad. I thought I tasted hints of olive and cider vinegar. It was awesome. Truffle Fries is another absolute must have. So delicious but as in all fries also a deadly diet. Have it once in awhile and not feel bad. Actually truffle fries have been quite the rage in recent times.  German sausages are always good.  Of course, these are what the restaurant is all about - knuckles, pork knuckles.
