Laughter - The Best Medicine

One of the reasons I took up golf was because there is no other game that can provide so much fun and laughter - laughing at yourself and others especially the latter, hahaha. Then you pray that the others do not have too many chances to laugh at you. There are usually plenty of opportunities to do so. For example, somebody is getting set up at the tee box and you could see him fiddling around, studiously surveying and studying the landscape to avoid the water or the Out of Bounds zone and after summoning all of his golf skills and years of experience, he hit the ball to exactly where he was trying to avoid.  Or one where the fairway is so wide and there is a bunker tug at an obscure corner and you go right into the bunker. Sometimes, there could be a tree at one side of a huge fairway and your ball crash into the tree. This is akin to driving your car in a desert where there is a single tree and you crash your car into it. If this is fair dinkum to you, you must take up this wonder

Weather The weather is taking its toll, they say its the El Nino effect making us feel like slow loris or watching ourselves as a sloth in the wild on Animal Planet or Discovery Channel. It is literally raising temperatures which I hope will not lead to raised tempers. The irony is that golfers who always pray for no rain are now praying for some as a welcome relief. The other relief being that you can now find your ball where it used to be water, it has receded and just dropping off the green into the water may still offer you some scant hope. World Cup With a 100 days to the World Cup in South Africa, the English has been rocked by sex scandals. Ashley Cole may be ruled out or may return too late to get back to top shape while Wayne Bridge, his most suitable and stable replacement wanted out. There is now Villa's Stephen Warnock (ex Liverpool) and Everton's Leighton Baines both having a good season but haven't played enough with England. If I were Capell

What Kind of Golfer Are You?

Damned if you do and damned if you don't. That's a terrible situation to be in. Tiger Woods' official apology was a no win situation but he had to do it nevertheless. Because it was open, it was vulnerable. I am sure there would be some quarters that may have found it a well-rehearsed performance created by his spin-doctors and was basically pure theatrics and just crap because he took no questions. I don't know if given a choice I wanted to be in Tiger's shoes or Mr. Akio Toyoda the chief of Toyota. Which one will come out of trouble first? Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel sang: "I rather be a sparrow than a snail. Yes, I would." Sometimes, when troubles come, they come in an avalanche. Like John Terry and Ashley Cole having their own mini World Cup. The springboks and gazelles in South Africa had better be able to run fast when the soccer players land there. Somehow, to some folks Tiger may have looked like he was in some internet video of someone ki

My beloved Sengkang-Punggol FC affectionately known as The Dolphins is making a roaring start to the new S-League campaign. They have won, drew and lost one each and sitting in sixth position but level on four points with the third best team. In their last game, they went for the jugular and had French upstart and new boys Etoile by the balls until they conceded a last minute goal or they could have added another feather in their cap. The Dolphins are affiliated to me by zone. Meanwhile, in the English Championship, Newcastle is perched right a the top with a three point lead and is looking good for a quick return to the Premier League. Arsenal has been dropping points like bird droppings for defending like novices. You could see Chelsea defending with up to seven man while Arsenal got caught too often with their attacking play and it was never more evident than the game against Manchester United. Like it or not and for all their arrogance, Man U is the best counter-attacking team a

TaylorMade R9 460! This Is It!

If I were any better, I would be twins. The Ping G10 was rated the best driver in 2008/2009 by a good margin by many top magazines and neutral equipment testers. Now they have the new G15. How can anyone make a driver better than the G10? Well, some reviews swear by it that it is indeed better. I think it is possible in that it could be even more forgiving and with some clever internal weight adjustment go a little further but Ping unfortunately seems to have increased their price greatly from what I found by as much as 20%. So if you are looking for a new driver, you must consider the G15 because it was the Golf Digest's Editor's choice but if you are a current G10 owner, keep on with it till a later date to upgrade to the G15. There was only one equal to the Ping G15 and that is the TaylorMade R9 460. 2009 was like a cold winter where the worst of things have happened. Even if you are not doing too badly, you are reading and seeing terri

Learning Mandarin...Part II

During the mornings and evenings recently, the air gets a bit chill and it's basically bright, sunny with clear blue skies and breezy. It gives you a sense of spring although we are in a three-season country - hot, hotter, hottest. How nice it can be sipping rum and dangling on a hammock between two coconut trees on an island paradise without a care for time and other parts of mundane life. I hope you are done with all your spring cleaning. Some folks actually get hurt and injured during this time for they haven't use some of their body parts to screw or unscrew a cabinet hinge, paint their house especially the ceiling where in severe cases can leave you looking skywards with your nose in the air as your neck alignment could not be put back the default mode. I have decided not to subject myself to such abuse and slavery and having a good bath to clean myself is already spring cleaning. I have a prescription for very effective spring cleaning amd clearing cobwebs (please s
