EPL Game Week 28

Fortunes in life has its twists and turns. Look at AVB and Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City. Arsenal and Liverpool. Eleven more matches to go and soon over. Time really flies. Chelsea v WBA - While negating Man City in the first half, Chelsea did not looked like they were going to win but they are not a bad team overnight. They are breaking out to play a more attractive game and when there changes there will be birth pain. They no longer had that aura of invincibility under Jose Mourinho. This is not a good time for Chelsea to welcome a visitor who after not winning for quite sometime have bounced back to win 2-in-a-row including a 2-0 away to Liverpool. Steve Clarke faced injuries and suspension for the Baggies and have on-loan top scorer Romelu Lukaku ineligible to play against his parent club Chelsea. Rafa Benitez has problems and he need to take note that Chelsea's previous two managers Andre Villas-Boas and Roberto Di Matteo were both sacked after defeat by WBA. WBA won thei

Lion Dance

I believe that life is a celebration despite the hardship it can be. All of us are born to dance in one way or another. There is no fixed form of dancing but cultures dictate a certain way to dance so different nationalities around the world dance according to their ways but all dances are interesting, is a good form of exercise and a sight to behold. I see jumping on a golf green and a soccer goal celebration as a form of dancing too. There are Hip Hop, Ballet, Ballroom, Disco, Folk, Break Dance, Flamenco, Chinese, Malay, Indian, Puerto Rican, Salsa, Belly, Line, Can-Can, Cha Cha, Hustle, House, Jazz, Latino, Macarena, Para Para, Pole, Puppet, Rock and Roll, Samba, Shuffle, Step, Swing, Foxtrot, Tango, Lap, Tap, Twist, Waltz, Dragon and Lion Dance. All and nice and unique. Argentina gave us the Tango and Spain gave us the Flamenco which are lovely but to me one of the greatest dances of all is the Lion Dance. I have the good fortune of being at a cousin's place during the Lu

Return To Tomoe Japanese Restaurant

Image
There are all kinds of Japanese restaurants out there these days. Some very reputable ones of the past were gone. In the modern day, we are talking about commercialism much more than just the food. You find a certain business model which is successful meaning that you rake in your moolas. The service industry here in retail and F and B is indeed a very challenging one. How do you get workers? Are locals interested? What about service staff attitude? Can they be rewarded more if they are to improve their service? Will Singaporeans pay for better service? Do customers think that service staffs are slaves? Do workers think that being in service is being subservient? How to take pride and ownership in service? I used to take customers, friends and family to Orchard Shopping Centre those days to a small family oriented Japanese restaurant at the basement level called Tomoe. Of course they have since relocated to 263, Thomson Road at a row of shop houses where there are also a Kore

The Wedding Ring

Getting married is also known as settling down. It means you should be finally settled. Settling down in a city, in a job or settling down in your hobbies or the types of golf clubs, etc. are no small matter in particular the first two but settling down in life in the form of getting married is most entirely a different thing. You must understand that getting married is unlike going into a restaurant. You looked at the menu, ordered what you wanted. They served your orders then you turned around and saw what the other guy ordered that you thought looked better and you wanted to change.  Others watched too much movies and got the notion of love at first sight and in the case of the vampires - love at first bite. You bumped into one another, she dropped her books, you helped her with to pick them up and gaze into each other. There was a spark. Then like fairy tales, they lived happily ever after. Nothing is farther than the truth. People got hoodwinked by "Hollywood"

Beirut

Sometimes people wonder why Beach Road in Singapore is called Beach Road. I mean where is the beach? One of the reasons why Singaporeans are so stressed is simply because we are changing at breakneck pace. A building was suddenly gone. When you next drove past, something else was under constriction. If you do not pass by for some months, suddenly a new landmark was created. Older folks may find it even more puzzling and get lost in the frenzy and quagmire of the rapidly changing city landscape. Smacked right next to Beach Road where the beach once was is an enclave of historical landmark now turned into rows of restaurants just right after Ophir Road beginning with Haji Lane, Arab Street and Bussorah Street. Going further right behind these lanes will lead you to Muscat Street, Kandahar Street and Sultan Gate. It was here that I was recently introduced by friends to this Beirut Fine Lebanese Cuisine, located at 72 Bussorah Street, next to Arab Street along Beach Road. They serv

What I Ate During CNY - Part II

Image
Long long time ago, on the second day of the Lunar New Year, a baby was born. His mother would have thought of him as being rebellious. Why on such a day? If anything is a gift from God, you do not do the choosing. Many moons later, it all came together - almost. After celebrating my birthday on the second day of the Lunar New Year, I got to celebrate again on the seventh day of CNY too and then some.  A few people got confused when they saw others wishing me a happy birthday because the seventh day of the Lunar New Year is 人 æ—¥ (ren ri) or "yan yat" in Cantonese which well is every body's birthday. They thought it was a joke but it was my birthday completing yet another year of wisdom intake. Ancient Chinese understood "creation" and so they celebrated 人 æ—¥ literally translated means human's day. Let me quote Genesis 1: 24-31 - 24  And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures  according to their kinds:  the livestock, the creatures that mo
