This Is Christmas

It is incredible how quickly a year has almost gone by. By and large, the world has forgotten what Christmas is all about except for merry-making and lots of commercial shopping. I mean what would it be like if everyone would help to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, help the poor and stop the wars regardless or creed, status or race.  After having achieved all these and then we can sit down and argue about religion all day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xf8db3Vz95I (This Is Christmas - Celine Dion) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifCWN5pJGIE (Mary Did You Know? - Pentatonix They tell you that all women and also men should look very slim or need to beautify through various ways including botox and plastic surgery but one one is interested to upgrade their character of their soul even if you provide free lessons. What if one were to stare into a mirror and see your character instead of your face or body? Scary isn't it? Even when people go to a place of worship, ...

This Christmas

Time Flies, It's Christmas Again. Everyone I have met have commented how amazingly time flew this year. That was what they said last year. They said but it seemed even quicker now. And that my friend is the essence of it all for it is now Christmas! People used to say what are you waiting for? Christmas? In other words, you have to do things in the "now". Do not buy new clothes and keep them for next Christmas, wear then now. Do not wait for the next time to show your spouse, parents, siblings and children love, show them now. I say show them love not spoil them.  Why? Simple as that, tomorrow may never come. That is why we are called the human race, a race against time, a race where nobody wins actually. For we are a fallen race. Christmas excited me when I was a young child because I learnt to make my own and first Christmas cards. I got to send them to friends with personal messages. I got to buy a new toy and meet Santa Claus if we were lucky perhaps that was...

Remembering Christmas

Image
How many Christmases have you celebrated? Do you remember the first few in your living memory? My childhood memories were those when my parents brought me down town. Where was down town?  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUSYb3igXzI . In the old days, there was only one Metro at High Street and one Robinsons at Raffles Place and they were the best there were for shopping centres. Dad and mum would bring us walking through "Change Alley" before we got to Robinsons and they always have someone dressed up as Santa and he would walked around. You could pay a dollar and dip your hand into a basket and pick up a "Lucky Dip" not knowing what  you are going to get. In primary school, we learnt how to make Christmas cards. We would draw a Christmas tree with presents around it (commercial) or a snowman (cultural), etc., sprinkle some shiny stuffs over glue and bingo! B ut there were other types which were harder to make. Those where you have pictures of the infant Jes...

Merry Christmas!

Deck the halls! Shopping centres are quickly doing what they do best - to sell you things. Decor for Christmas are up quickly after Deepavali and soon after the Lunar New Year stuff will follow. I am already seeing CNY stuffs selling during Christmas. With high rentals comes this obsession. Are we overdoing things and over running and over stretching ourselves? When I was young, there were only a few big shopping departmental stores - Robinsons at Raffles Place (and the famous Change Alley), Tangs and Metro at High Street. They had lucky dips for a dollar and children love it. Life was simple. In the midst of our modern world, people are increasingly knowing the price of everything but the value of none. We have giant snowman, rein deers, Santa Claus, snow and Christmas trees in full display. Unashamedly. There are even some displays of  a baby in the manger. It does add to the festive spirit and in a good year, you get your bonus around this time but do we just re...

Christmas - Before And After

Image
Christmas, so what did I do? We had a small family celebration at Costa Sands @ Pasir Ris. This one is better than the Downtown East in my humble opinion. When having a little break, we walked down to e-hub Downtown East to visit the lovely pond with big fish like Pacu. There was this huge tent and it looked like was in the Arabian or Mongolian desserts or some kind of mother ship to take you away. Big departmental stores held their sales there. We did the turkey on the eve of Christmas eve. Then we hammed it in. Fabulous! I tried to be conservative. Then I added beef to my plate. Certain food has to be consumed with some fats. We did dancing like para para, volleyball, javelin, long jump and various other sports using the X-Box Kinetics. Young and old can do it. On the actual Christmas Eve, I visited the House of Red Rock. I had - one beer. Ahem. And collected some bottle caps. On Christmas Day, I was invited to the Indoor ...
