How To Choose The Right Irons

When Rory McIlroy was victorious I wrote about his humility then recently I learned that he ranted at a fellow pro who was a commentator who may have criticised him saying that he was just a pro who barely made it and has no right to talk. Sad or maybe it was just the heat of the moment? Pressure and disappointment can make us all like that? So if you are not hitting with the right sticks, you may end up with more pressure you set yourself up for and irons has the most sticks in a golf bag than driver, putter, wood or hybrid. They are the bread and butter clubs so to speak. It pays that you know not what is best, sold the most or is the latest but what is suited to your game. There are three types of irons - "Player's", "Game Improvement (GI)" and "Super Game Improvement" (SGI). Players'c clubs are like blades or TP (Tour Preferred), Game Improvement has midsized club heads and SGI clubs are those with extreme perimeter weighting and the bigges...

What Clubs 2011? - Driver

I know it is only February. It has been getting really hot recently so I decided to give my hair less like a trim and more like a shave with the sides and back from first cut rough to green with a green speed of 12 on a Stimpmeter. (On green speed and the Stimpmeter please see link): http://gforce-guru.blogspot.com/2009/09/green-speed-stimpmeter.html It's HSBC Women's Championship again. A friend has the privilege of playing with Brittany Lancicome at the Tanah Merah Garden Course and commented that her average drive was 250m and it was fast and accurate. I want you to watch this clip comparing Ai Miyazato with Brittany Lancicome and you will see an amazing swing with stunning speed by the latter and a very good comparison comparing swing style so that visually you can see differences when on the course: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykPsqBdjSXc There you have it - fear not the weapon but the hand that wields it. I am not here right now to show you how to swing but...

Best Golf Clubs Of 2010 Part 3 - Fairway Woods

Before I let you into the main topic, I was telling about white coloured drivers and Cobra introduced a Limited Edition last year and I was telling about the a new driver the R11 from TaylorMade which comes in a ghostly white I was wrong. Wrong in that they are not releasing one but two white drivers in the R11 and the Burner 2.0 probably from April. Have a peek here on the R11. If you are doing r5, you are behind the times. r7 too as the R9, R9 460, R9 SuperTri, Burner Super Fast have already happened so quickly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvwT4LNaPVM Most drivers come in black, a few in dark hue of grey, occasionally dark blue and at times deep red. The black paint job they splashed on the crown of drivers are made glossy so that it looks attractive to you rather than Matt but you take note that glossy crowns is a source of distraction to the eyes when looking down at it with the sunlight's reflection. Immediately, a white coloured crown will not have that effect on yo...

Best Golf Clubs Of 2010 Part 2 - Irons

Irons are the bread and butter clubs. They used to give you 3-9, PW and SW. With the advent of the hybrid the longer irons like the 3 & 4 are more or less obsolete in some cases. If you walk in to a golf shop today you will easily find combo golf clubs in a bag. Usually they now come with the 3 & 4 in hybrids instead of traditional irons. This normally happens in the "Super Game Improvement" category. Meanwhile, some low handicappers prefer sharp looking more playable irons with less directional help which are less forgiving and found in blade like irons with little or no cavity behind or in forged irons (called Players' irons). Other single digit players may still prefer friendlier ones. Irons that are in between are the Game Improvement types which are mostly used. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dG9hb3_blo It is most important that you are equipped with the right set of irons which when fitted well with your game is likely to last for quite some time. I...

Ping G15 Hybrid

Image
I have told you stories about Ping and technological advancement of hybrid golf clubs in my previous articles. What I do not need to tell you is the difference between better golfers and average hackers is the short game. Besides the short game, other key criteria are naturally a good golf swing and therefore, consistency. Whenever you play with better players, have a keen observation how they go about the business. The way they make decisions, lay out or attack or reading of the putting line, etc. One key component of their play other than consistency is their reading of distance in relation to wind and ground condition. Allow me to narrate a true story of real life drama on the golf course. I have always told you that lessons can be learned everywhere and everyday. We had a mini self-organised golf tournament where small prizes are to be given away for top golfers, nearest to the pin, longest drive, etc. Strange things do happen in life. I was having an unusually horrid day wh...

Ping G15 Irons - The Search Is Over

Image
I have known her long ago since she was little, got infatuated with her when she was a young lady and now that she is has grown into a beautiful woman, I want to hold her hands. Here are the Beatles with "I Wanna Hold Your Hands": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pygvbo3ZAxw&feature=search She is actually quite good-looking even a little on the meaty side but she is not going to win any beauty contest. I chose brains over beauty. She is understanding, easy-going and forgiving. She gives me direction when I am all lost at sea. She corrects my path and confines it to the straight and narrow. If I were to bring her home to show my mum, mum may think I am crazy doing such things at this age. Mum may even say something like: "Why don't you just take up gardening like everyone else?" I wonder if friends would accept her. She is not loud but she is dainty. She is someone who gets the job done, no matter what. I have this feeling we were meant for one another. ...
