Driver Tech Talk

R What? The driver is perhaps golf's most intriguing club and rightly so. Recently I spoke to two persons and the topic centered on drivers. One bought a R11. What is distinct about the R11 from TaylorMade? If you have ever played Taylormade drivers such as the r5, r7, R9, R9 460, R9 SuperTri you will understand roughly what the R11 could be. When they first came out with the R9 it was about 420cc in club head size with a D4 swing weight, torque at 3.5, length of 45.25 and shaft weight at 65g and it offered only MVT (Movable Weight Technology). This clubs should be used by better players just for the head size alone. Following the R9 along came the R9 460 which as the name suggest now comes in a bigger head at 460cc with similar swingweight, torque but now with a longer length at 45.75. Torque is 3.1 for Aldila shaft and 3.5 (60g) for Fujikura Motore (65g) but there is an absence of MVT but they gave us FCT (Flight Control Technology). Maybe at this point, they haven...

Great Drivers! - TaylorMade R9 460 & Ping G15

TaylorMade R9 460 My previous article on the TaylorMade R9 460 was based on reliable ratings from golf's top magazines, testers' reviews and my very own testing at the range. When this big dog was unleashed on the course, like every new club it needs some time to get real results just like taming a wild stallion or playing with a Jabulani. You have to show it who's the boss. I would gladly announce now that it is everything it was reported to be, maybe more as I found myself with renewed confidence and going to places I have never been before conquering new territories.  have also settled down to a flight trajectory of "L" meaning "Draw" so much so that I could now just let rip. Hitting a poor shot at the first tee especially those near club houses where many people are watching is like being caught farting in public. R9 460 will take away the nervousness and the butterflies in the tummy. Long, straight or draw is the order of the day all ...

Weather The weather is taking its toll, they say its the El Nino effect making us feel like slow loris or watching ourselves as a sloth in the wild on Animal Planet or Discovery Channel. It is literally raising temperatures which I hope will not lead to raised tempers. The irony is that golfers who always pray for no rain are now praying for some as a welcome relief. The other relief being that you can now find your ball where it used to be water, it has receded and just dropping off the green into the water may still offer you some scant hope. World Cup With a 100 days to the World Cup in South Africa, the English has been rocked by sex scandals. Ashley Cole may be ruled out or may return too late to get back to top shape while Wayne Bridge, his most suitable and stable replacement wanted out. There is now Villa's Stephen Warnock (ex Liverpool) and Everton's Leighton Baines both having a good season but haven't played enough with England. If I were Capell...

TaylorMade R9 460! This Is It!

If I were any better, I would be twins. The Ping G10 was rated the best driver in 2008/2009 by a good margin by many top magazines and neutral equipment testers. Now they have the new G15. How can anyone make a driver better than the G10? Well, some reviews swear by it that it is indeed better. I think it is possible in that it could be even more forgiving and with some clever internal weight adjustment go a little further but Ping unfortunately seems to have increased their price greatly from what I found by as much as 20%. So if you are looking for a new driver, you must consider the G15 because it was the Golf Digest's Editor's choice but if you are a current G10 owner, keep on with it till a later date to upgrade to the G15. There was only one equal to the Ping G15 and that is the TaylorMade R9 460. 2009 was like a cold winter where the worst of things have happened. Even if you are not doing too badly, you are reading and seeing terri...
