Roast Meat @ Sin Ming

Image
I was so busy I had missed my car service. I went back to get the ChemLube and went to Sin Ming. Fortunately, the brakes are still Okay. So I had an hour or so to spare while waiting and I planned it close to lunch time before the crowd comes in. I found this roasted meat stall at the HDB block next door. The typical fare of char siew, roast pork and roast duck. The roasted meat are all roasted on the spot as you can see here making it very fresh and tasty. I didn't try the duck as I was alone and it will be too much meat. So I just went for the char siew and roast pork. For $3, the serving is generous and value-for-money. I find it easy to eat "siew lup" since young because the meat is tasty and when the gravy is good, it is fantastic. The surprising thing is that they even served you with a bowl of pork rib soup with a piece of pork rib in it that is soft and tender. After a hearty meal and on the way back, I noticed the place has a

Euro 2012 - Players To Watch

These were the recent soccer friendly results of some Euro 2012 finalists:  Spain 2 Serbia 0 - Not the full Spanish squad nor the usual game where Spain would dominate but good enough for a clear win. Their all-time top scorer David Villa will be absent due to injury and will be missed but they do have the "others". Switzerland 5 Germany 3 - All Bayern Munich players were rested. After suffering such a devastating blow to Chelsea can the Germans rise again so soon after? Never underestimate the Germans for they have been at the top more often than any other. It was however a bit worrying as this was the first Swiss win after 56 years! Someone should be trying to sign Swiss international Eren Derdiyok for bagging a clinical hattrick against the Germans. When was the last time Germany conceded 5 goals in a game? Do not read too much into it. Netherlands 1 Bulgaria 2 - The Dutch were in their famous "Orangje" but this time full orange. They played well as typ

Callaway RAZR X Hybrid

Image
When I first started golf, like many beginners I could not handle a driver. I was grateful that my late uncle Lum passed me his used Callaway Warbird 3-wood which I kept till this day.  Then I was hitting this lovely 3-wood as my driver and it went further than others' driver and so I remember Callaway well and thanks to my uncle. I also couldn't agree more with Ely Callaway, founder of Callaway Golf that golf is really about that occasional good shot and thus his way of producing golf clubs that are suppose to go straighter and farther and above all - very user-friendly and forgiving. However, Callaway was a late comer in introducing hybrid clubs but they did make the Heaven wood. In 2011, they introduced the RAZR X using a heat treating process making the face 18% thinner than the previous model the Callaway Diablo Edge. Callaway remains a huge name in golf with their range of products. Sushi DIY

Image
Are you a DIY kind of person? For a busy city slicker, it can be a chore. So city folks just outsourced everything and pay for it. Increasingly, this is the trend and its continuity means we are all losing many basic skills in our daily life which we must somehow try to reclaim some of it in order to be useful. Imagine paying, carrying the furniture home and then having to fix them part by part, screw by screw. I admit that sometimes I just hate it. The last time I did some DIY was when I fixed up the metal stand of a fish stand. I wasn't sure if the workmanship of that stand was not precise or that my DIY skills has become so poor but one thing that was sure was that it was frustrating. When it was fitted, it wobbled and so I have to dismantle and refit. I did this several times until it got more decent. An hour's job became two or more. We used to do Japanese food at home or rather she (wife) used to do that and we have tried all kinds but it has been some time since

Teochew Porridge

Image
Teochew porridge is well liked by many. It is usually more plain and less oily. It is very easy to consume especially on very hot days. These days, it is increasingly diffucult to get good Teochew porridge. Some are just too expensive while others are just very ordinary. Then you should try out Soon Soon Restaurant.   At the junction of Simon Road and Upper Serangoon Road. During peak hours, there is always a queue there. Only peeve here is that at peak hours it is tough to find a place to park your car. There is a good array of dishes to select. The service is quite fast and prices reasonable. This deep fried fish is delicious and very fresh. The "chye poh" omelette is not salty and has a nice crunch while the fish cake and meat ball are tasty. The chili lala looked so tempting that I naturally have to get some. And of course the typical cabbage to go along. The braised pork is lean and the gravy when mixed with your porridge give an add

Tribute To Robin Gibb

The Bee Gees were quite ordinary musicians from their humble beginnings. They were from a place in Manchester, England before moving to Australia and then making it big in the USA. Today, only Elvis Pressley, The Beatles, Garth Brooks, Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees. The Bee Gees or Brothers Gibb have since retired when Maurice died in 2003 but few people knew that actually broke up in 1969 as Robin went on his own. The Bee Gees were very special and very talented as they not only sing but also wrote and produced. They gave Barbara Streisand "Gulity" and "Woman In Love": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xr-fOJdeUus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ppc_dT-J5E Andy Gibb "Shadow Dancing", "Thicker Than Water" and "I Just Want To Be Your Everything": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcHlL6PR5NU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqCmGQKmGnw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-xfFqWaK1s Dionne Warwick's &quo

Hougang By Election

Hougang was a laid back new town when I shifted there with my parents many years ago, I think easily more than 20 years ago. I started attending election rallies when I became an adult even way back. I witnessed those days where opposition parties took pot shots at the ruling party and people were cheering but when it comes voting the results were the same. Some politicians got carried away and were sued for defamation. People could see and decide for themselves who were the good candidates but today the ruling party is attacking the opposition which may not go down too well with people as some political analysts has rightly noted. At Potong Pasir, I saw how the people love Mr. Chiam See Tong and got him into Parliament. A very admirable, well-respected and humble man. Later, a Mr. Low Thia Kiang won over the people of Hougang but we can see how Potong Pasir and Hougang have aged. People were asking why were they not helped like other estates. Shouldn't estate upgrading be dep

Euro 2012 - The Finalists

What a game that morning! Congrats to Chelsea! How many teams can beat Barcelona over two legs? Yet Bayern playing on home soil has to be favourites especially with Chelsea 6th in EPL  and missing 4 players including their captain. When Muller scored in he 83rd, many would have thought it was over. Didier Drogba powered home an unstoppable header which Neuer got a hand to in the 88th but could not stop to bring it into extra-time. Then Drogba played villain when he carelessly tripped Ribery but Cech saved the penalty. When Philip Lahm scored the first penalty in sudden death and Juan Mata's got saved, again we thought it was over. To win in this situation on penalty kicks against the Germans? No way! Cech saved from Olic then Cole scored perhaps the most well taken penalty to level before Bastian Schwesteinger hit a post and Drogba hit the final nail! He was amazing when he first turned out for Marseille and continued till now. This has implication for England. Ashley Cole was
