Presidential Election - Post Mortem

Just a mere 0.34%. Congratulations to Dr. Tony Tan now President Tony Tan. We should all close rank now and work with him. He can be a good President but Dr. Tan Cheng Bock would have been a "natural" to unify people because it takes many years on the ground to connect with people, to understand people. In other words, he already knew what had to be done as opposed to others having to find out what needs to be done. Singapore has lost such a great opportunity. It would also be wise to read that 65% of the people voted against the winner. Had Messrs Tan Jee Say and Tan Kin Lian not stood for election where would these votes go to? Some said he could go to either or become spoiled. My take is that Singapore is now divided into three camps. There is this die-hard pro establishment camp that will always vote towards the government line no matter what happens (35%). They wanted stability, fear changes, wealthy business people or they feel the establishment always have the

How To Choose The Right Irons

When Rory McIlroy was victorious I wrote about his humility then recently I learned that he ranted at a fellow pro who was a commentator who may have criticised him saying that he was just a pro who barely made it and has no right to talk. Sad or maybe it was just the heat of the moment? Pressure and disappointment can make us all like that? So if you are not hitting with the right sticks, you may end up with more pressure you set yourself up for and irons has the most sticks in a golf bag than driver, putter, wood or hybrid. They are the bread and butter clubs so to speak. It pays that you know not what is best, sold the most or is the latest but what is suited to your game. There are three types of irons - "Player's", "Game Improvement (GI)" and "Super Game Improvement" (SGI). Players'c clubs are like blades or TP (Tour Preferred), Game Improvement has midsized club heads and SGI clubs are those with extreme perimeter weighting and the bigges

Food Report

Image
No matter how popular soccer is or how some love golf or whatever, the greatest common denominator other than death is food. Despite having more food stalls today, the food at most places are not as good as the old days. They do not prepare all the ingredients like they used to and most are factory supplied. Food has become too commercialized. As each generation passed, the old hawkers has no one to hand over their art and skills. I spoke to many of them who lamented their tough lives some having to work from 3am preparing and opening their stalls by 5am and the day's cycle begin till late. I have worked at Cecil Street and around the Shenton Way, Robinson Road area since dinosaurs roamed the streets around Lau Pa Sat literally translated means "Old Market". In that time, there weren't hawker centres and food stalls were at the back streets between buildings. Can you imagine that in the afternoon? But Lau Pa Sat was already there but not refurbished. I rem

The Fisherman's Friend

Image
I am not the fisherman but the fisherman's friend and I am not some kind of lozenges. I just pay for some gears, baits, play chauffeur and when it becomes irresistible, join in the fun! I am re-learning some old skills from scratch and part of the fun is discovering places. Lorong Halus Lorong Halus is a road leading off the Tampines Expressway locatead at North-Eastern part of Punggol Promenade at Punggol East where a River Walk has been created with modern facilities of restaurants, a billiard saloon, fishing pond and soon a golf driving range. There used to be a charcoal port there at Lorong Halus in the early days and it was famous for hauling in KBL (Kim Bak Lor) or Barramundi as old fishermen knew. I drove all the way in and we still have to walk a long way to get there..... Ah.....open sea.....at last. We spotted several lone anglers. A few came on bicycles. Be careful around this dam here as the wat
