EPL 2015/16 - Game Week 4

Look at the League table now - Manchester City played three and won three matches, scored eight goal with none conceded including three scored against rival Chelsea without reply. Their play has been impressive. I should have bought the Leicester City jersey when I was last in Bangkok at the airport with the words ''King Power'' on it. They are in second place with exciting displays and I wish Claudio Ranieri and the Foxes well. Liverpool are a different team as they have not conceded a goal yet! Think the last two seasons. Rodgers is plotting a different game. Manchester United are having problems. When they could not beat Newcastle at home, the Magpies have improved a bit but the Red Devils have become worse. They have a long way to go yet. Arsenal so good towards the end of last season and promising during pre-season did show flashes of brilliance but four points from three would be considered poor by their standard. Old enemy Chelsea and Mourinho are languishi

Humans are fortunate that we are at the very top of the food chain. When you are on top in any situation, remember that you have to act very responsibly because you have the power to change, sustain or create things. Equally you could also destroy like Luke Skywalker who went to the dark side. Certain things can even happen due to unintended results. High rental, lack of manpower, business owners or chef retiring, etc. have recently been happening everywhere. What I have lamented and feared some 4-5 years ago has been coming true. Nothing lasts forever, so saviour the moment.  Like when it comes to food, to me all culture have great food. It is the most important and interesting they can be cooked in so many ways and fashion. The Chinese themselves can make their food as different as their dialects. Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, Hainanese, Hakka, etc.  If you remember the famous Teochew "Swatow'' Restaurant, you are in my league. There were so many fond memorie

EPL 2015/16 - Game Week 2

The EPL will continue to be a great league. On opening day, so many exciting things happened. Manchester United looked ordinary, Aston Villa won away! Crystal Palace showed what they are made of, Leicester City were stunning, Everton had to fight back, Chelsea struggled against a fabulous Swansea, Newcastle looked refreshing, Arsenal were crushed by a solid West Ham at home, Philippe Coutinho fired a stupendous late winner at Stoke and Yaya Toure is back and so did Manchester City. Wow!!! Aston Villa v Manchester United - Villa looked compact but then their opening opponents were Bournemouth. Villa have been losing to the Red Devils by 3 goal margins for the last few years except in Dec. 14 at Villa Park they held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw. Louis van Gaal after spending so much money looked like an ordinary manager/coach. United were flat and flattered to beat Tottenham through Kyle Walker's own goal. If they continue in the same vein, they are in for a tough season. Ro

I went to VivoCity to look for the Boss but they are no longer the Boss. I remember the Chinese name 黑 社 会. Now they are the ''Black Society''. It is better to stay home because as I was waiting I went into Esprit just across the restaurant and promptly bought a shirt. I like their pre-meal condiments and titbits. The presentation is rather unique and this one is tasty thought I have forgotten that we should not be eating century eggs. The servings are quite huge and mostly in generous portions. And the ''siew mai'' is quite exciting. Just look at the huge prawn! ''Char Leong'' - deep-fried ''yu tiao'' wrapped around with ''chee cheong fun'' topped with pork floss. Yummy.  Meaty pork ribs. Deadly salted-egg prawns. And finally a powerful volcanic eruption. Always be very careful with the lava flow of salted-egg bursting out especially when it is piping hot. Firstly,

EPL 2015/16 - Game Week 1

The long suffering wait is over. EPL is back in full season soon. The hibernation is over. Who will win the league? Who will be among the top four? Who shall be relegated and how will the new boys fare? Club bosses are like the banks, if you come with success or as a big name, you get to have all the money. Manchester United v Tottenham - United opened the match of last season with a loss to Swansea. Louis van Gaal has by now spent if not squandered some 250 million pounds on new players and he has to succeed. If given the same money, could David Moyes do the same or better. Life is never fair.  Am I convinced that they win the title this year? No. They have only Rooney up front and he was not even playing striker last season and their defence is suspect. Meanwhile, Harry Kane single-handedly gave his team 24 points with his goals, more than any one last season. If you saw his goal against MLS recently, it showed his class all over, pulling a defender away to one side and in that

My lamentations of some 5 years ago continue unabated. Our street food or hawker food is dying. Why would I want to eat something that comes from the same factory. Please charge me more for less but the quality must be good. You may have read about 27 year old young man who was told to sell his bowl of handmade fish ball noodle for $2.70. Why can't we be more reasonable in other ways like the rent? Why deny the man for his hard work from day to night and why don;t we let the free market decide. If his food is so good, let him sell it for $5. I see people drinking a cup of coffee for $8 at some hip coffee joints and no one complains. Lately, Singaporeans have a new fetish and trending. One by one, the good old hawkers and restaurants are closing and whenever they hear of it, they start to visit the places and make a long queue. Good food places are closing for a variety of reasons. Ageing hawkers or restaurant owners/chef, higher rental and shortage of manpower. That is why whe
