Do Nice Guys Finish Last?

They say nice guys finish last. Do you agree? It all started from the dating scene where girls would usually say that they like guys to be sensitive, helpful, open doors for them, treat them nice, etc. but when the girls finally date guys they often choose to go on a date with the bad boys, the more dangerous fellows who are more impulsive, crazy, a bit more reckless types. Well, for a start, we need to have a better definition of "nice". If they are referring to nerdy guys who can be used as floor mats and often got stepped all over, is plainly submissive and still say thank you to people after they have been abused is simply being none the wiser but if being nice means gentlemanly, considerate, trustworthy then it is a different kind of nice. I do not think it to be true. Dating is just a small part of life and there are bigger dates awaiting you in terms of you career, work, business and other relationship and things that matter in life. Like the guy who got stabbed w...

Losing My Religion

Sometimes when I pick up the phone to call a friend, he may be so busy that he didn't even say hello but just utter "I'll call you back". Then one week later, I would call him again to say "hello, just calling you to ask when you are calling me back?" We are all that busy but when we are not we look for other things of leisure to keep ourselves busy again. We deal with people all the time - the good, the bad and the ugly. How we deal with people or interact is dependent on how we view the world and who you are or what's your beef. Do you subscribe to the view that all people are bad until proven good or people are good until proven untrustworthy. This makes a world of difference. You have got to give before you get. You can't expect to receive rewards first then decide what you want to give. You must have faith to give freely and the rewards will eventually come. Though you may from time to time be deceived if you trust too much, you will live in...

Gyroscope

Azerbaijan became the newest country to have logged on to my blog. I welcome these two readers as they are my 68th country. What is a gyroscope? It is a kind of machinery or mechanical device like a wheel mounted in a set of rings such that the axis of rotation is free to turn in any direction. It is used for aircraft to for direction and to keep it level in flight. It is also used in bicycle, the navigation system of ships and space craft and the effect can be seen in things like a yo-yo and the effect is that when you spin it, it keeps pointing to the same direction. It is a device for maintaining and measuring orientation. You will be surprised that they use gyroscopes in your Nintendo's Wii or your iPhone 4. Ships have a kind of gyroscope to use for stabilising roll motion when the ship is in the ocean. Roll reduction was needed for ships because the roll of the ship in an ocean makes people seasick. It causes cargo to shift and suffer damage. The old gyroscope was ex...

Every Face Tells A Story

They say every face tells a story. There are people who can read your lips, read your hand writing, read your fortune, read you by your body language. Read your mind? If we can read each other's mind, everyday there will be a lot of people fighting. You will see two people walking past each other and suddenly a fight would erupt because one fellow could have said in his mind "look at this fellow - weirdo!" Or in a meeting suddenly people would throw chairs at each other as some one's mind was picked: "see this slimy character at it again". You can read my previous post on "Which Is Your Most Important Club In The Bag": http://gforce-guru.blogspot.com/2009/08/which-is-your-most-important-club-in.html Just as they say that you could tell the character of a person by the way he plays golf, perhaps we could also tell something about the guy by what he puts into his golf bag. This may not be the sole criteria and there could possibly be exce...

Sputnik Moment

In his State of the Union address, President Obama laid out a strategy to rebuild America calling on the people to out-innovate, out-educate and out-build the rest of the world. In addressing his people mired in the country's economic problems he tried to provide positive encouragement with words of wisdom and inspiration by spelling out what America has to do and he cited the "Sputnik Moment". America is the nation that built the transcontinental railroad, constructed the Interstate Highway System and brought electricity to the rural communities. Probably the most quotable moment of his speech was when he mentioned "This is our generation's Sputnik Moment". What is the Sputnik Moment? Sputnik - 1957 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbAXkWPasYw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcex_MuBT7Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJpLgxY7wes The original Sputnik Moment was when the Soviet launched a satellite into space way back in 1957. It was the world...

What Goes Around Comes Around

Sometimes you will hear people saying this : "What goes around comes around". What do they mean? Let Justin Timberlake entertain you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOrnUquxtwA Let me share with you some very powerful true stories: Story One There was a young student who was an orphan at 18 back in 1892 at Sanford University. As such he was struggling with his fees but he had a bright idea. A friend helped him to raise money by hosting a musical. They knew there was this great pianist Ignacy J. Paderewski but his manager demanded $2,000 for the piano recital which they agreed. On the big day after Paderewski performed they found they have collected only $1,600 and they tried to explain their plight giving him all the money but Paderewski gave the money back to the boys and told them to settle everything and only to give him whatever the balance if there were remainder. A small act of kindness. Paderewski did a great thing as he could have harboured a thought lik...

Nothing Is Impossible, Impossible Is Nothing!

Image
Warning! This is not a golf article but to draw in readers who are golfers and have no life other than golf and those who has nothing to do with golf, you must absolutely read on! Maybe my hero Clint Eastwood will ring me up to do a movie together some day. Nothing is impossible. Sounds like a slogan of a sports advertisement that shouted:"Impossible Is Nothing!" I am sure you have seen it. I was reminded of the slogan when I stumbled onto these things which are agar-agar that were shaped and resembled the sports brand's logo.   There are times in life where you are overwhelmed by problems such that you feel you are going under. It could be work, business, finance, a relationship, a failure. Some people may rather die than use their head to think. Yet there are others whose problems in life are unfortunately not really even their own or of their own making. They are simply ...

Contentment

I welcome the newest visitors to my blog - readers from Poland, the Solomon Islands, Argentina and Turkey becoming the 47th to 50th countries. What Is Contentment? To content is willing to, satisfied. So contentment is satisfaction. On the other hand to contend is to strive, fight, dispute, quarrel. Is contentment complacency? In our modern pressure cooker society, if you are contented, will you be seen as complacent and/or lacking in ambition? Perhaps even lazy? As a country prospers, we eat more meat and rich foods. We can now have beef/chicken/pork/lamb or whatever 24/7 where once upon a time, we do so only on festive occasions with each was given only a small portion. Bus stops were farther apart which means we always walk more and work pace and work/life balance were better. Are our bodies designed to take such abuse of modern day lifestyle and work demands? I think how we continuously respond to things around us that places so much demands on us is what will eventually kill...
