Nature - Sightings

Image
Now I run less but still run at times with walking, cycling added on. Variety is the spice of life? Walking is not bad at all. It's like walking the talk. I tend to see more things when I walk. Or even cycling where one can stop any time to take in the sights, smell and all. Maybe you can walk closer to God. You need a little quiet time. Besides smelling roses, I like watching insects. Like dragonflies, butterflies, etc. Or praying mantis and grasshoppers. When I was young, we could just walk downstairs and we could catch lots of grasshoppers but I didn't like the "chow mare kong" - the grandfather grasshopper which besides hopping so powerfully could actually fly with their wings and they are huge. I do not like them as their hind legs are extremely prickly and the eyes are huge. I remember catching fighting spiders at the backyard behind my granny's place. Especially good catches among the pandan leaves. Every time I saw two leaves closed to...

Punggol Promenade

Image
This time we decided to drive to Punggol Promenade and from there to walk, run or cycle further up. I did all three.  I stop at this embankment because I saw these plants growing all over. Water is life. Without water, we'll die faster than without food. Can you imagine not being able to shower? Without water, you can't make beer. If food is your body, water is your soul. They could even grow around rocks so long as there is water element nearby. Maybe partly with water coming from the this most unique toilet. A PUB boat passing by created a stir. I saw a few "haruan" in this small stream but the disturbance from the boat caused the water to be muddy and the fish to scattered. The Halus Bridge in its grandeur. Dismount and push, the sign says. Cyclists must take note especially on pedestrian crossings to dismount and push for your own safety. Mau tak mau? Dismount! The pace of development can  be seen from afar as a river runs t...

Cycling

We should never impose on our children in what they should do or what sports they should play. My parents never did that to me. If I had chosen badminton and fishing among my many sports and hobbies it was purely coincidental but my dad brought me fishing to begin with and I loved it but I did introduce my children to all kinds of sports, music, etc., because these are important for character development.  It is quite common and normal for them not to be interested in what you introduce them like fishing (boring and time-wasting of course until they haul in a big fish) and cycling could be another non-interest. Then at the right time or perhaps they have some friends who became interested or when their interests changed, they can suddenly become crazy over these things. I have friends who are like pro-bikers or triathlon pros and they are amazing people. I am always amaze by how they have this extreme endurance.  So my son wanted me to ride with him and...
