Teo Heng Teochew Porrdige

Image
The good old days. Travelling back in time. Books and movies about time travel are often intriguing. Ours have no physical transportation, only memories. So when I recently brought a few friends together for lunch at Teo Heng, it was a special moment. For the younger generation, this Teo Heng is not a Karaoke. It is a Teochew hawker stall that harked back to previous generations.  When I started work, it was at Cecil Street, a street that runs parallel to Robinson Road and Shenton Way. You would not believe it if I told you that when I was at LKN Building and later GB Building, you come straight down from the office and you will find good hawker food right behind at the back lane. When you wanted to seek greener pastures, you have to walked further and you will find the original Lau Pa Sat literally translated "Old Market". I remembered dad was working at the now defunct Denmark House for a long time and my elder sis was at Hong Leong Building. They told me about Teo Hen...

Endangered Species - Food

Venezuela, Dominica, Lebanon, New Caledonia and Guatemala visited my blog to cross the century mark, with Guatemala being the 104 country to have done so. When people ask for for phone number, I tell them "sorry, I won't know as I do not call myself". I have said it before, lots of good hawker food will all disappear in the next 5-10 years. It is not just gut feeling but I have actually spoken to real hawkers. The belo...

Gluttons' Delight

If you are always eating at fancy restaurants, you may soon get tired no matter how good the food. This is especially so if you do lots of entertainment in your work. When this happens, you simply want heartland food - as simple as they come. In some places on earth, there is no food and here we are spoilt for choices and there are times you are tired of eating. I saw a clip of a family in the Philippines where the father will collect leftovers from a fried chicken and noodle joint where the rich and well off would leave behind their half-eaten food and when he got home his children will happily run to him and they would gather to say their grace before eating joyfully. Talking about chicken, I found this chicken joint at the Heartland Mall @ Kovan quite refreshing in that somehow it is not oily even for the fried ones. and the serving is not too large, just now. Frankly, we are always overeating. BBQ Chicken Qiji Sometim...
