Sembawang

Image
Sembawang is the northernmost point of Singapore and is actually the nearest point to Malaysia. It has a rich history and colonial architecture still remain there today. Although it has a suburban residential area, there are military, industrial and recreational facilities there. It once hosted a major British naval base (sine 1938) and still has port facilities handling regular shipping traffic there today. It was previously where all our vehicles came through from car carriers. It was once the site of Nee Soon rubber estate. In 1968, the naval base was handed over to the Singapore Government who converted it into a commercial dockyard as Sembawang Shipyard. There was a time where nobody wanted to live there when allocation for HDB flats were given  but today it is bustling with activities - as good as if not better than many elsewhere since all highways were connected. There are many interesting things to discover at Sembawang and the peripheral area...

Singapore Mirror - October Happenings

Image
Sometimes strange things happen for a reason or for no reason but they always say everything happens for a reason. A good or bad person comes into your life maybe at the work place or is your neighbour and then he was gone. He could be an angel or the devil in disguise. Some people or events were probably put there to test you.  Nothing stays constant. Nothing lasts forever. The earth is rotating. Today you are ahead, tomorrow behind and vice versa. Therefore, if you are a person, a company or a country that is consistent in your delivery, performance, character and culture, then you are close to being constant. It will take a lot of hard work, effort and yes, self reflection. Do not look at yourself in the mirror for vanity but for reflection. That is why we have to mull over things looking at Singapore with a Mirror.  Snakes The last time I saw a snake, it was near Pungg...

Sungei Buloh - Revisited

Image
If I were any better I would be twins. Now tiny Singapore has so many parks and park connectors to keep us in touch with nature. Sungei Buloh is always interesting. The wall murals at the entrance shows you the variety. And the painting too..... Needle fish, halfbeak and archer fish can be seen in the waters. It is not often but on your lucky day you can see them...crocodiles. We spotted a young black viper - a snake with deadly venom on a tree branch. It was exciting and made the trip worthwhile. Squirrels are aplenty. They are everywhere. It is not easy to shoot a squirrel as they move very quickly. Hyperactive like some of us. We thought we saw a croc. It was still and look like a log. But I saw it changed angle and position. It really did. If you see a croc in the wild and in an enclosed environment it is quite different feeling. Monitor lizards are all over. I took this shot h...
