You know the words Gong Xi Raya was coined when Chinese Lunar New Year was very close to Hari Raya. Retailers and commercialization kicks in very quickly each year as you will see Christmas decors going up as early as November maybe October and quickly followed by Lunar New Year decorations. They are getting up so fast that it makes sense to leave them all on and we just celebrate throughout the year. In the midst of the worst recession ever, they are selling houses that are being taken up like they are free and those with only 99 year lease on some previously unwanted areas are sold for more than a thousand dollars per square foot. Bigger and more cars are getting onto the roads. Low wage workers like me are feeling the squeeze even if it seems unreal. Am I missing out on all the excitement?
