Thai Food - Nakhon Kitchen

You haven't met your relatives of friends in Singapore for quite sometime but during this school holiday season, you will bumped into some of them in Bangkok. Recently loads of Singaporeans once again descended there for their annual pilgrimage to shop and eat regardless of the political protest and demonstration.  They say it is peaceful and safe.  Some say just stay in the shopping centres or hotel and you will be okay. Others said it was interesting to witness the situation. There are people who continued with the journey because they have paid for it and the travel agents gave no refund. Some went ahead even as the airlines were willing to refund. Of course those who went and came back said it was okay but with tens of thousands of people or was it up to 100,000 demonstrating and protesting, a mob can turn unruly and things can suddenly escalate into chaos. You do not need to have a direct impact. Just getting caught in a binder, stuck at a place can be a problem. Bac...

Nakhon Kitchen Again!

Image
I do not go for a holiday every June or at the year's end. Sometimes, no budget, other times no time. Sometimes both. In fact, I have just missed another trip to Bangkok recently where the extended family have been. So I did a local trip which was the next best thing to being there. I went back to Nakhon Kitchen . A good place is one with consistency, be it the people, the service or the food. The Thais working here are very productive and fast workers. Even the decor and utensils give you a distinctive and authentic Thai feel.  We were not hungry or rather we are not big eaters. We are always considerate by eating what we need to haha lessen our carbon footprint. We just had a plate of pineapple rice. Sambal kangkong is one of my favourites any time anywhere and this one here is good. A bowl of fresh clear soup of tomyum is a must! It wakes you up and kills all germs too I suppose. Mango salad, definitely a lady's favourite. St...

Sometimes, I Don't Know What To Eat!

Image
Do you experience this problem sometimes? It is meal time, you go to a food place, walk around and you just don't know what to eat. The food are very much the same despite the variety. In part, it is due to commercialisation of simple hawker food fare to the quality and standard of taste. At times, I asked if we are running out of ideas. So in a dilemma, it is better the devil you know then the devil you don't. It was my mum who introduced and made me French toast. Bread soaked in egg then fried = French toast. You can add cinnamon, spread it with maple syrup, brown sugar or kaya. My wife helps me with it these days. The other day, a boy was asking the auntie at the coffee shop why his French toast has no kaya. The auntie replied: "Aiyoh! Ah boy, don't you know? We are saving Gaia!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jt6TJomo8g Walking around on a hot and humid day gives us a dress rehearsal of the fury of hell. You can hallucinate about being in the N...
