Thai Food - Nakhon Kitchen

You haven't met your relatives of friends in Singapore for quite sometime but during this school holiday season, you will bumped into some of them in Bangkok. Recently loads of Singaporeans once again descended there for their annual pilgrimage to shop and eat regardless of the political protest and demonstration. They say it is peaceful and safe.

Some say just stay in the shopping centres or hotel and you will be okay. Others said it was interesting to witness the situation. There are people who continued with the journey because they have paid for it and the travel agents gave no refund. Some went ahead even as the airlines were willing to refund. Of course those who went and came back said it was okay but with tens of thousands of people or was it up to 100,000 demonstrating and protesting, a mob can turn unruly and things can suddenly escalate into chaos. You do not need to have a direct impact. Just getting caught in a binder, stuck at a place can be a problem. Back home, we had our own little riot which shocked many people.

I have no money and no time, so I went back to have a taste of Bangkok locally. I do not normally write about the same place or food twice unless it is really good for some reasons. So I went a bit earlier thinking that it could be less crowded. I was wrong.

But the service was fast. They took orders while you are queueing.

What is amazing about them was the way they time you being seated and then the food will soon follow. You won't have to wait long.

We had an appetiser - mango salad. Women would like this.

The pineapple rice is as good as any and better than many.

The hor fun was delicious and the ingredient used were fresh. Only thing was I found the hor fun was a little on the soft side.

The clear tom yum is something you have to savour here. Very good. Some tom yum are too sour, others lack punch. This one here was done just right each time I tried it.

The kai lan was very well done too.

This was good too, sweet and sour fish. Crispy skin, soft fish inside.

The stuffed chicken wings are a must try.

Look at what you will bite into! Excellent!

The staffs always have their hands full. See what they could load up in one hand. I saw this gentlemen who is relatively young, well built and giving out some orders in Thai and so I asked him if he was the boss. He replied in Singlish accent: " If boss no need to work so hard lo". Typical humility?

What is Thai food if you forego desserts? These mango dish is fabulous.

So too the tapioca.

It was $71 and a very good meal for four adults with drinks. We had two special ice milk tea and two lemon grass drinks. If I had not ordered the sweet and sour fish, it would just be $56. This is even better value and better tasting food with fresher ingredients than many zi char stallls.

The consistency level is pretty impressive. This is one place that I could go to over and over again and do not be discourage by the queue. It is quick and it is good, consistently and value for the money!
