Return To Tomoe Japanese Restaurant

There are all kinds of Japanese restaurants out there these days. Some very reputable ones of the past were gone. In the modern day, we are talking about commercialism much more than just the food. You find a certain business model which is successful meaning that you rake in your moolas.

The service industry here in retail and F and B is indeed a very challenging one. How do you get workers? Are locals interested? What about service staff attitude? Can they be rewarded more if they are to improve their service? Will Singaporeans pay for better service? Do customers think that service staffs are slaves? Do workers think that being in service is being subservient? How to take pride and ownership in service?

I used to take customers, friends and family to Orchard Shopping Centre those days to a small family oriented Japanese restaurant at the basement level called Tomoe. Of course they have since relocated to 263, Thomson Road at a row of shop houses where there are also a Korean restaurant and an apple strudel shop. Parking is very limited but at off peak you can get a lot right in front which is so convenient. Otherwise, just search around the surrounding areas.

Of course, off peak means that you could get very hungry by then - without much energy left.

Tomoe Japanese Cuisine is authentic and different because they do your food fresh. They prepare, cook or slice your food when you order. Just look at this appetising jelly fish.
Jelly fish is also very nice when served in our local rojak. The jelly fish here is pretty good.

The salmon sashimi here are a good cut. You can taste it is different from some others because when in the mouth there is a certain tenderness meaning it is not frozen.

And when you ask for salmon skin, they really gave you salmon skin. All skins all crispy.

The deep fried fish is something to savour. They were fried to a golden brown with enough meat in it with a light coat of flour.

I find tonkatsu sauce special and irresistible. So I have to literally coat the whole piece of fried fish in it.

Sukiyaki portion came with very good beef as they were gingerly cooked while in the pot so that they remain tender and juicy.

I have my own beef prepared in their own special sauce with pieces of ginger and garlic in it and some cut chili. It came with a bowl of light soup and fruit.

We had shisamo and it was one of the best you can find anywhere. If you saw these fish swimming in the sea and you threw a stone and it hit one fish, will the mother fish or baby fish die? Or both?

Fish lay eggs, they do not carry baby fish inside. My fascination with green tea and red beans continued.

A very yummy ending to a delightful meal.

Do not underestimate the humble watermelon regardless of whether they are red or yellow. They may be lowly from where they grew but they are heavy as a single fruit and it is loaded with vitamins A,B,C,D,E,F,G. Just kidding but they really are loaded with vitamins A, B6, C, E, Tiamin (B1), riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid and folic acid. It is very sweet.

Coming here for a meal was like meeting an old friend. The food is certainly better than what you will find in a buffet restaurant.
