Labrador Park

Labrador Park and its nature reserve is a special and historical place. Many brave men once defended our shores. We ought to have a soccer team in the S-League named as Pasir Panjang Warriors. Not only that, there was once way back in 1979, at the turn of the decade on 31 December that a group of friends aged between 18-20 that came together and we stayed over the night as we were all at a stage in life where we knew we were moving on in life. Where to we were unsure.

Some in NS, some going in, some may be relocating and our hobbies would change and so too our life in the near future. None said so but we knew it and we just wanted to be there for that one moment in history.  I remembered most names of the people who were there that night from dusk to dawn.

I can't remember the exact spot we set up base camp but some names of the people who were there - Benson Loh (our recce leader), Barry Chua (scout), Ben Hwang, Lionel Teng and James Loy, Velu (Loy's neighbour), Neilson Tan, Johnny Lim and yours truly. I may have missed out some as it was so many years ago. I'll be trying to search for faded photos of yesteryear.

A lovely blue sea, this walkway will lead you to a historical passage which Sir Stamford Raffles missed.

Pray tell what this is?

Labrador is a rocky outpost like people would say "between the devil and the deep blue sea" or "between a rock and a hard place". A rolling stone gathers no moss?

Every time I saw ships and the sea, it evokes a certain emotion even though I have been in the Merrytime industry for so long, er I mean Maritime.

Beautiful paintings of turtles adorn these pillars of a shelter.

A secondary forest of the nature reserve awaits you.

There are rocky cliffs here. I remembered we were at some granite looking cliffs a long time ago. Even though I have been here on several occasions, over time the place has evolved.

The machine gun post to protect the shores.

This explanation said it all.

A rocky cliff but don't get near it. Rocks may fall on you the sign warns.

You will catch ferry on their journey to Batam.

A little boardwalk

For you to see and hear the currents rushing to shore crashing onto the rock.

This is Berlayer.

Where you can see Sentosa island.

Million-dollar homes, Caribbean by the Bay is that not what they called it?

And "Reflections?"

Batu Berlayer, the sailing rock.

I think few of us know the historical significance of this place.

A walk through history lessons.

We even have the Dragon's Gate!

So Keppel got its name from Admiral Keppel. If it had been Ah Hock.....as you can imagine, history is interesting.

Our Twin Fortresses.

As in everywhere, "No Fishing!" We need to have a minister who is interested in fishing.

Batu Berlayer and the Dragon's Tooth Gate.

Shutter bugs

There is a structure atop the cliff which I can't see.
I'll be telling you about Admiral Cheng Ho or Admiral Zheng He next time around. Till then......
