Yum Cha

I used to bring guests to swanky hotels and fancy restaurants. Then one day I decided to bring an "ang moh" to a Chinatown dim sum restaurant where it is noisy, where trolleys added more noise when pushed to wooden planks floor. Then you order your food fresh from the trolleys. Isn't that interesting? He loved it for the unforgettable experience. That is what people want sometimes. No need for the constant upgrading, etc. He said he liked it because he hasn't seen anything like it. Our Chinatown has become too plasticky.

That place is "Yum Cha' which in Cantonese literally translated means to drink tea. The Chinese in the early days drank plenty of tea especially when eating and in particular when eating oily food. As I haven't been there for awhile, we decided to give it a visit but this time nearer home at the one at Serangoon Gardens.

As it was on a weekend it was packed. Fortunately, I made a reservation.

The menu is good enough for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

The usual suspects for Dim Sum...

The dumpling soup is an absolute must try! Eat and drink it slowly so that you can savour every drop of it!

It is like a special tonic so good one is actually not enough!

A simple and humble dish of lo mai fan. Superbly done here!

Silver fish. It is a fish not the insect variety.

The next visit here for me could be on a weekday where they have a set lunch buffet or something that titillates.
