Soup Restaurant

Sometimes, we just need simple food or to live a simple life. From the days of Samsui women and our humble beginnings to present day Singapore, there have been tremendous progress but how many people understood simplicity today? How many remembered their humble beginnings? How many humble folks have you met lately?

The Soup Restaurant was started with soups and home cooked dishes. It is Chinatown's Heritage Cuisine. Eating at Soup Restaurant evokes nostalgia.

Everybody knows this restaurant and I like the peanuts they served which reminded me of the steamed peanuts hawkers sold during a Chinese Wayang.

I know chilli padi is very spicy and spicy is good but I prefer the bigger ones which have less seeds and gives off a certain aroma when you chew on them. It is very good and healthy with chopped garlic too.

Tofu is a nutritious and delicious dish in any style of cooking.

This one comes with a great gravy with tiny bits of chopped sea cucumber in it and was missing from the menu for sometime. While the other one is crispy on the outside, this one is soft and tender. It is truly wontofu!

There are so many kinds of Chinese food and the Chinese just love their soup and the variety of soups are numerous. This is especially true among the Cantonese.

Winter melon soup and...

Lotus roots soup. The Chinese eats everything that walks and all plants, their fruits, melons and their shoots and roots.

Most dishes are well received but do not leave without their "Signature Dish" which was an instant hit when they started - the "Samsui Ginger Chicken". This is coming from someone who knew well the benefits of ginger but dislike the taste of it except for "teh halia" tarik (ginger tea) but found this ginger chicken absolutely one of the best!

I found it so good that putting it on a leaf of vegetable would result in a watered version. This appeals to me what about you?

This pork reminds me of what my mum used to cook for us when we were young and sometimes the wife does that. I love the taste of water chestnut with the meat.

The food are actually simple, delicious, down to earth and prices reasonable. I want to do more Soup Restaurant.

After a truly nice meal, we felt like having desserts. So we walked over next door to do so with a "cheng tng".

Black Sesame Paste or "chee mah hu". The black sesame is very rich in vitamins and mineral and offers many health benefits.

Well, this lychee flavoured shaved ice was so refreshing.

Oh Glorious food!
