EPL - Gameweek 5
I am going to miss this weekend's games for sure. The problem with Singaporeans is that nobody wants to get married in the lunar calendar's seventh month because they think the hungry ghosts are going to get them or it is just inauspicious. If you go swimming the "chwee kwee" or water ghosts will pull your legs but then why the "kwai lo" can do so without their "kwai" disturbing them? Then suddenly in September everybody is getting married. I think for September weddings in future, they should allow usage of GIRO instalment plan like the IRA (tax dept.). Then we are going to have a big VS135 bash at Tyrwhitt on Sunday.
Arsenal was made to sweat for the three points with a 1-0 win at the Emirates against Swansea. Of course they could have scored a couple more but it was the goalie's error that resulted in Arshavin hitting home from an acute angle. Everton and Aston Villa played a pulsating game at Goodison Park for a 2-2 draw. Manchester city make light work when Sergio Aguero scored a clinical hattrick for the 3-0 win over Wigan. Liverpool was hard done at Stoke who overcame the Merseysiders with a 1-0 win from a dubious penalty. Although Jamie Carragher was made to look everyone of his 33 years his only mistake was to put his arm around Walters who fell at the slightest touch.

Sunderland continued their dismal run going down 1-2 to Chelsea where Sturridge scored with an intereting back heeled goal squeezing the between a defender and the goalie. With Sturridge in fine form, Torres is in trouble. Wolves fine run came to an end when Tottenham heaved a sigh of relieve with a 2-0 win. Poor Bolton, normally so hard to beat succumbed 0-5 to a superb Manchester United where Rooney once again hit a back to back hattrick to once again help the Red Devils upped the ante over their equally productive neighbours. WBA squeezed in a 1-0 win away to Norwich. Fulham battled in vain when they could only equalise after trailing. Meanwhile QPR was held 0-0 by Newcastle. QPR plays a good game but they were thrashed by Bolton who hasn't done well since. Newcastle on the other hand has a defence that is holding up surprisingly well.

Blackburn v Arsenal - Blackburn is improving drawing Fulham away after straight losses. It's like you had double bogey, then bogey and you hope the next one is a par. Arsenal has improved too at least they finally got a win albeit a narrow one. The Gunners can't afford to lose points anymore. They led a strong Borussia Dortmund away before conceding a goal to end 1-1. It is a good sign with their display showing they are battlers. 1-2 to the Gunners.
Aston Villa v Newcastle - When Martin O'Neill left Villa had a shambolic season and sold a few players. Then surprisingly, they are doing quite fine really plus Gabriel Agbonlahor is in heat but Newcastle's season is an unusual occurrence winning 2 and drawing 2 games conceding only a goal and both teams are unbeaten after 4 games. Agbonlahor's fine form suggest he may be worth a goal. Will the Magpies unbeaten streak ends? 1-1.
Bolton v Norwich - After their impressive 4-0 trouncing of QPR away and then losing narrowly to Man City at home, lost at Anfield and got bamboozled 0-5 at home by the Red Devils so they are getting worse? Maybe but it was United that was too good. Norwich had 2 points and they scored a goal in 3 out of 4 games even against Chelsea but for every goal they have scored they conceded 2 on average. Their captain Holt used to play in the S-League here. Bolton has a class act in Klasnic. 2-1 to the home team.
Everton v Wigan - Everton had one each in win/lose/draw and they have sold Arteta to Arsenal. Wigan is playing above themselves winning 1 and drawing 2 except for their sole loss to Man City. 1-1.
Swansea v WBA - Swansea plays a decent game but they have yet to score a goal even against sides like themselves. Will it come at home against WBA? It could be but WBA and Roy Hodgson has been unfortunately playing well but losing to Man U, Chelsea and Stoke before winning 1-0 v Norwich. Swansea will get a goal based on probability but a win has to wait longer. 1-2.
Wolves v QPR - Players like Fletcher, Jarvis, Doyle and Ward are good players and do you believe that Wolves are level on points with Liverpool? QPR is now a Tony Fernandes team so maybe you can fly Air Asia to London to catch a derby. They have added a few prominent players like Shaun Wright-Philips and Joey Barton who was made captain playing against his own club (Newcastle) and were unlucky not to have won. These added steel and skills could see them staying up. 2-2.
Sunderland v Stoke - Steve Bruce is in danger of his own Sunderland fans turning against him making many new signings without the results to show for. Will the Black Cats fire the first salvo by sakcing their manager or winning their first game? They have scored twice by let in four. Even Chelsea and Liverpool could not beat them so tell me what you think of Stoke? They used to give us players like Gordon Banks and Alan Hudson. Now they have a dependable goalie in Asmir Begovic, good defence marshaled by Ryan Shawcross and Robert Huth, a talented midfielder in Matthew Etherington and they have even won home and away against Hungarian outfit Hajduk Split. Stoke does not concede easily and will pop in the odd goal. 0-1.
Tottenham v Liverpool - This is an interesting game. Spurs had a great last season. They lost 0-3 to Man U then crashed 1-5 at home to Man City making both Manchester teams serial killers but the Cockerels is always one of the most entertaining teams to watch and when they won 2-0 over Wolves, new signing Adebayor and Defoe scored. Liverpool once great champions looks like coming back under Dalglish. Will they bounced back after the controversial loss at Stoke? Can Suarez save them and will Andy Caroll know that Christmas is not here yet or is he still at the party? 2-2.
Fulham v Manchester City - The Cottagers are a good team with fine players like Bobby Zamora, Damien Duff, Clinton Dempsey, Danny Murphy, Simon Davies, Hangeland, Greening, Kamara but the results are left wanting. Not a good time to meet Man City who is firing on all cylinders. 15 goals in 4 games is quite a bit. Both Dzeko and Aguero have 5 goals including a hattrick each. What if they both play together and they still have others to choose from. City has been scoring a minimum of 3 goals averaging 3.75 goals per game. Go figure. 1-3.
Manchester v Chelsea - There are few matches bigger than this in recent times. Chelsea are grinding out results but they have not been as impressive. 3 wins and a draw is no slouch and are slowly getting into groove but will it be timely to stop the Old Trafford machine that has yielded 18 goals in 4 games? Their mid-week 2-0 European triumph over Bayer is a good result. Rooney has got a goal every game including two hattricks and in red hot form but they needed a goal from old man Giggs to tie 1-1 away to Benfica. It will be a very close game but the Red Devils seem unstoppable at this point. 2-1 with Rooney scoring again.
Have a great weekend!
