New Broom Sweeps Clean

Image
When you recently felt that the morning and evening air was chilled did you feel a welcome relief especially in the morning? We should really have more of such weather where the sun is up, bright and shining but windy indicating that Spring is near. It is also particularly good for golf. I just love blue skies. When I was a child, by this time the noise and smell of fire crackers and fireworks would let everybody know of the impending new year. A few families could be living under one roof and some weeks before the Lunar New Year, all the aunts would start preparing to bake all kinds of new year cookies. The sight and aroma of love letters, pineapple tarts, Kueh Bangkit, Kueh Bahuru would fill the air and lends much more to the festive activities.  Fruits like pomelo, mandarin oranges are everywhere. Time to prep the house. Shoppers throng the streets. Celebrate with all things red. Wise sayings and good wishes in calligraphy.

EPL Game Week 25

Manchester United extended their lead by seven points after gutsy QPR surprised Manchester City 0-0. Chelsea did not help themselves when they got cancelled out by Reading, ditto for Tottenham. Everton made a jump with their win over WBA and remained the best value-for-money team while Arsenal and Liverpool played out a pulsating match but having just a point each. What's up for Game Week 25 QPR v Norwich - QPR is unbeaten for four League matches. They are just four points behind three teams. Norwich form has dropped so drastically that they haven't won in the last seven league matches. In their three previous meetings, they have won 2-1 each and drew 1-1 the other time. Norwich aren't great travellers and QPR have been rather solid. Think 0-0 with Man City in their last match. A win for QPR is not unthinkable. 2-1 . Arsenal v Stoke - We all know Arsenal and they just came from behind to hold a resurgent Liverpool while Stoke have been languishing without a win in

Take Time To Play

Image
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All play and no work makes Jack a mere toy. Consider this, countries with abundance of natural resources have people who tend to be more laid back, relax, even complacent and if I may say it - lazy. Others with nothing, have to work very hard for their survival. Usually too hard. Where is the balance? If we put the so-called hard workers from countries with nothing into countries with great natural resources, will be become lazier? Conversely, what would be the effect be like? If you have been working too hard - long hours, too much work, working at great speed, it is time to find balance. We need balance to try to be optimum. Yes, we need to take time out to play. Indulge in hobbies. Or it can mean just taking a break or to break routine. Refresh your mind. The dust has settled for the Punggol East SMC By-Election. I welcome you to Punggol and I somehow felt this is a very nice song to share. No meaning to it, just felt nice. I li

EPL Game Week 24

This week's EPL matches will be disrupted by the F.A. Cup.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkA9AE-aBAM  (Match of The Day Theme) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gm_KEbd4rEY  (1971 Final) Villa v Newcastle - I am not sure if Lambert the Villa manager will last any longer. If he were Chinese "Lam Bert" or "Bert Lam" they may keep him till after the Chinese Lunar New Year. The writing has been on the wall but when Bradford had them beaten (Capital Cup) it got serious and made worse by the F.A. Cup exit by Millwall. I only knew Bradford to be a clothes line I found locally. Meanwhile Newcastle signed Frenchmen Gouffran  and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (he's from France not Mapo) and a few others. They are level on record and on par for their poor form and results and when they drew, they drew 1-1. So I say it could be a draw but can the additional Frenchmen prove something.  1-2 . QPR v Man City - I f QPR had started the season with Harry Redknapp, they may no

Greenwich V

It was raining. Probably since last Friday night and the whole Saturday. Then again on Sunday. Rainy days are good for bunking in and sleeping till late. I can't do nothing in the outdoors and since I haven't ran for awhile, I went to the gym, real gym, not Gym's Pub, to sweat it out. It drizzled and rained, drizzled and rained and it stretched into the night. We had nowhere to go so we headed down to ..... Greenwich V, pretty place it is. The children wanted Quiznos. I like Western food too but I'll do it sometimes when I feel like it once in awhile. They told me this is better than some other famous ones.  The adults wanted something old fashion. We settled for Yong Tau Fu. Just a normal stall but YTF is something simple and can mostly be tasty and good. We returned for some killer ice cream. We chose the banana/caramel with hazel nuts. Fabulous!   Then I opted too for another one - Irish Cream with chocolate

The Vow

The Durex survey that Singaporeans are not having enough sex was warped. Maybe they asked the wrong standard questions or the wrong people.  A friend sent me an article on a scholarly argument presented by a Assistant Professor: "Sex, lies, leadership: an inevitable threesome", which seemed to have thrown out arguments that we should not over condemn leaders who have faults like us. Well, I have always told people that what you see in the papers, things that happened to others can also happen to us. So be careful and be watchful. Linking testosterone with the pursuit of power, libido and multiple mating partners may be the reasons why people stray  but aren't we superior beings and if so can we then justify that we just follow our urges wherever they lead us.  What then about the values if life? Loyalty and faithfulness? How do your children look at and learn from you? While the world grapples with the deadliest economic crisis yet, we, the little red dot have been

Dear Abby

In the USA, people have been writing to advice columns "Dear Abby" or "Ask Ann Landers" since time immemorial. The advice column "Dear Abby" was founded by Pauline Philips in 1956 the pen name Abigail van Buren and has carried on till today by her daughter Jeanne Philips. Her pen name was coined by using the name of Biblical figure Abigail from the book of 1 Samuel and the last name of a former US President van Buren.    "Ask Ann Landers" was written by Pauline's twin sister. In memorabilia of Dear Abby Radio Show, Dear Abby has a Star in Hollywood Walk of Fame. After all these years, you can imagine her contribution to society has been immense. Pauline Philips died on 16 January 2013 aged 94 after suffering from Alzheimer's disease for some years. Dear Abby received, gave advice to and helped many with all kinds of problems from marital, suicidal, love, relationship, work problems, teens, sex, drugs, family, etc. The list is end

EPL Game Week 23

I saw a report in the papers that said: Pay-TV: Consumers should let retailers know what they want. I think consumers and readers were shocked that it is the view of the authority. The questions remain why can't we just pay for what we want instead of choosing bundles? When we buy vegetables, they don't ask you to take bundles. They won't say oh if you take kang kong, it is packaged with kai lan and lettuce and the vegetable sellers won't tell how how tough their life is so they can't sell you single items. I am now paying more than double from since Pay-TV started. I don't need much. I love the Discovery and National Geographic, sports, entertainment. Then soccer especially the EPL was separated and I had to pay more. Then it was switched to another provider and I had to subscribe separately. Why are we always paying more for the same things than others and we are pleased with it? I am certain things can be done in a much better way. How do we signal to these

TaylorMade RBZ RocketBallz Driver

Those of you who frequented China for golf have obviously been going to the wrong places. I read that a tycoon in Jinjiang offered a dowry of $180 million for his daughter's hand in marriage but it is too late now, she found her other half. Heck, who knows he might even build you a few golf courses! Before I proceed to the main topic, Ping has a new adjustable driver called G25 (previously G20 and G15) which has 1 gram added to its club head with a desired D3 swing weight. Ping's method is different from say TaylorMade as they feel that a driver with more head weight can be good for your distance. Maximise momentum but sacrificing a little speed. TaylorMade themselves are soon launching their latest new driver. Yes, again! Some talked about R13 after R11, wrong. It is the R1. It will come with all the standard TM features to adjust loft, face angle and flight pattern and as usual I suppose, a lighter club to increase swing speed. It will come with all the standard TM fe
