EPL Gameweek 30

There are not many games left before the season closes. I have told you umpteen times that sometimes you may not excel but the competition crumbles and self-destruct very much like a golf game. If Manchester United win it this season, it is exactly like I have described.

Spurs 0 West Ham 0 - To me Spurs is the team of the season. Kudos to Harry Redknapp who turned them from relegation candidates to one challenging for honours. What is special is that they are playing breath-taking soccer fearlessly and very much like the Kevin Keegan led Newcastle of old. It may be tough but do not be surprised that they may upset Real Madrid in Europe. Gareth Bale is going to make it big with his swashbuckling style. Meanwhile, West Ham perennial struggler to avoid relegation has hit a rich vein of form. In the last few games they scored 14 goals which is more than the rest including Arsenal and Manchester United. The Hammers are an icon of English soccer. I hope they keep this going. Watch this link to see the passion of a London derby.

Villa 0 Wolves 1 - Since Martin O'Neill left they have been a pale shadow of themselves. Certain leaders make a great difference. Matt Jarvis scored and for his consistent performances on the wings has been called up for England duty in the squad to face Wales on Saturday. The last time Wolves was represented was through Steve Bull in 1990. Can't imagine 21 years just flew by! Gosh! Wolves may not be a very rich club but they are fighting as a pack. If our own S-League has this atmosphere, we are on the way.

Blackburn 2 Blackpool 2 - Just talk Charlie Adam, an unknown and now a household name. He is easily one of the best midfielders in the EPL even compared with the best and most expensive. If you saw his free-kick goal you will understand why. Watch his goals.

Stoke 4 Newcastle 0 - At times Newcastle play some great stuffs like beating Arsenal and then they can suddenly become atrocious. This yo-yo has some of the best and ost arden fans in the Toon Army but sadly they have to really do something more to lift themselves while Stoke is at least showing they could cope with the big boys. Credit to them.

Wigan 2 Brimingham 1 - Actually I love all the underdog teams like Wigan, Wolves, WBA and West Ham. They always give an honest day's work without the drama and tantrums. A Wigan win is good though it looks tough on them now. I have a soft spot for the underdogs.

Everton 2 Fulham 1 - David Moyes is an excellent manager. Everton had a poor start but now they are working their way up the ladder. American Clinton Dempsey continued to put up strong performances and now with another goal.

Sunderland 0 Liverpool 2 - Liverpool could not find a way round Braga and was knocked out of European competition. They need these points to have any hope of European competition next season. Suarez is the surest of them all. Watch closely that last goal.

Chelsea 2 Manchestre City 0 - Ex Champions v the pretenders - Abu Dhabi City aka Manchester City. Fernando Torres's frustration continued. Sometimes, you are better off where you were. Torres seemed to be lacking confidence for some time. To make things worse, Chelsea scored after Torres was taken out.

Manchester United 1 Bolton 0 - To be champion you do need some luck. Even Man U fans will agree with me that this is one of their poorer teams. Berbatov scored in the 88th minute to secure full points which I thought Bolton deserved to share the spoils for the good work they put in. To come back at top of the league after straight losses to Chelsea (1-2) and Liverpool (1-3) is just a case of fortune smiling at them but credit for their work credo winning despite playing with ten men. This is what champions are made of. I think Rooney should be dropped from the lineup and also from England. Other than the bicycle kick goal watching him is like watching paint dry. His early promise seems to have fizzled but yet he can be a handful. Meantime, this is David De Gea, a future prospect to play for Manchester United at goal.

WBA 2 Arsenal 2 - Arsenal was given several chances to take over as leaders which would have been icing on the cake. Instead each time they blew their chances. Everybody enjoys watching them play but they seemed to be imploding. They seemed to be unwilling to assume leadership. There is some lack of belief there that made them stutter at crucial moments. You must seized the opportunity when the chances came. Having said that it was not easy to come back after being 0-2 down but how could they go two down in the first place.

Arsenal finds themselves 5 points adrift with a game in hand after shooting themselves in the foot. The only advantage they have is that although looking promising at one stage they have been dumped out of every other tournament and now have a single focus on the League title and yes they have a new England star in the making in young Jack Wilshere who is just 18-19 years of age but his performances suggested nothing of that. He held his fort against the marauding midfield of Barcelona. An interesting close to the season is on the cards and I am still bleeding for my love owing to TV rights.
