@ Punggol

@ Punggol

In tiny Singapore there's no place to go and then everywhere you go you have to pay and pay quite a bit. I took the day off to rejuvenate and recharge and at the last minute I decided to check out and find out how the neighbourhood is doing. Drive along Seng Kang East by following the overhead LRT track till you see a bright yellow-orange roofed temple where you will need to make a U-turn. Just after the temple there a small street called Tebing, turn left into it to find a car park. The first thing that greets you are the eateries confirming Singapore's status as a glutton's delight.

Or you can easily get over here by LRT and stop at the Riviera Station.

Punggol Promenade as it is called is what you can see here.

An exercise station is a place for your exercise. Something so important and yet so often taken for granted and neglected by many. Farmers do not need it but all of us in modern life do.

So much peace and serenity Big Foot could have lived over the other side.

Flora and fauna along the way. Isn't this lovely?

Lallang can be great to look at especially in a field. They are great survivors and they spread wide and free without a care.

Lovely planks as walkway..... and if they do it any better, they'll be sending people out there to carry you in sedans. Someone told me he was on holiday somewhere in China and they have to walk and cross a steep but narrow passage-way but you can pay for them to carry you in a sedan chair. So he chose a sedan chair and as they were crossing the narrow passage, the sedan carriers began to complain that they were very tired and he was too heavy and he could feel his sedan tilted, so he quickly gave them some tips.

These seemed to be designed to look like lallang but they are really lights that would light up the riverside at night. I must do a night trip next.

Condominium looking apartments adorn the opposite side. They are really HDB flats.

Other creative use for bicycle racks. To understand pigs in a cage you have to get down and dirty.

This is a beautiful structure ain't it? What is it?

A rustic looking washroom. If my house grows up and become a big house one day, I'll made one like that. Beware of doing your business too long in here as you may get sun tan in circular spots on your buttocks.

You can play with the mirror that seemed to distort your figure. Oh dear, or is it really .....

In the old days, if you sinned they will stone you to death. You had better not be here. Let he who has no sin throw the first stone. Let us remember not to be self-righteous. That's what it said to me.

A river of life that's what water is.

A crossing. The National Parks people should watch out because I have seen places and if I remember correctly near to Punggol Park, there were spots where the soil perhaps due to erosion created a huge gap away from the railings. Toddlers might fall in so parents with toddlers should watch out too.

Streams are interesting as you can see many things at times if you are observant.

Mimosa also known as "Touch-Me-Not". Why? Is it due to their thorns? Or the fact that they close the moment you touch them. Intriguing as always and since the first time I touched them as a child.

My grandmothers, aunts and mum used to use this for natural colouring of their "kuehs".

An edge at the river bank.

Bridge over River Kwai?

This is your cross over to Halus.

Unique beams that plays with your eyes.

I think it is only half-way done. It could probably extend all the way to the dam at Seletar.

Welcome to Lorong Halus. There is another entrance to Lorong Halus from the other side. Halus used to be a charcoal port. I heard there used to be plenty of Sea Bass there.

The long and winding road just like the way life is as the Beatles has told you before - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nC9Vt1xQ5Kw

In days of old where there were many swampy areas, ponds like this were pretty common and we would go catch some fish. Even those who don't know how to cath fish learn how not to fall into a pond or the various ways you can.

Now we are tall and Christmas trees are small...don't ask me why time has passed us by, we don't ask the time of day, Bee Gees with First of May - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gewTWM6fH0

I urge one and all to.....

Not difficult to find. From Buangkok Drive get onto Seng Kang East which leads you straight to Punggol East and bingo! Or take the LRT to Riviera Station.

Plants and nature do have a calming effect on us. I need more. Perhaps I could start talking to them. Those who are at a high level could be doing that.

Are these Periwinkles?

A view from the bridge.

I put the water container to show you how big this burned mark is. At first I thought someone's backside caught fire. Now I believed some ignorant or inconsiderate folks used a portable BBQ pit to cause this damage. Sigh.

Even if you are tall and high up you need support.

More ignorant or inconsiderate people who allow their children to walk all over a sit-up bench. There goes my six-pack. Once my son related a story of how he was at the gym when a child was walking all over the sit-up bench and in the process dirtying it. He politely told the child about it and the father who was there was not happy asking his son to ignore it and told my son to mind his own business. So parents tell your children if they are doing the wrong things and if they did wrong and others say something reasonable, do the right thing. Fortunately I wasn't there or both children would be pulling their fathers apart and then you see my face in the Newpaper. No, can't be, I have more class than that.

A bistro and bar, one of three F & B outlets there.

Seafood restaurant & bar.

This is the only one open during the day.

After a gruelling walk. Look at the joy of this Princess with the "Two-Thumbs-Up!" like a good movie review. She wasn't even looking at the camera but the food!

We took a ride to the old Punggol Road right up to the jetty where a string of famous seafood restaurants used to line up on both sides and where buses would make U-turns there after reaching the end. It is undergoing some construction. There is something about old world charm that I like.

What are you waiting for? Go for a run, a walk, cycle or simply to just chill out.
