Best Golf Clubs of 2010 Part 6 - Putters

If you do a simple analysis, putting appeared to be the simplest thing to do in golf don't you agree? You hit with a driver, wood, hybrid, iron, wedge from long distances, over obstacles and hazards then when you put the ball on the green, all you have to do from so near is to putt? So why do we sometimes put three on the green on a par 5 over 400m and then go on to do a three putt from 10m? It is the same for soccer players who can bend the ball into goal from 25m or cracked in a 30m scorcher from free play but when they have to take a penalty after extra-time they do all kinds of funny things except put the ball in the net from close range.

It is because it is the clincher. Clutch mentality sets in. The pressure is more unbearable as it is expected of you to score, to put the ball into the hole. Today, there is a putter out there for everyone, even for the worse of you out there. When you hit a golf club onto a ball, a one degree angle of difference on the impact zone will translate into tens of yards or metres away from the intended line of target. Hitting it off with a putter can be even more disastrous especially to a wrong line and an undulating green going downhill. The latest putters can even allow you to shift weight like your drivers. Grooves and inserts are almost all too common these days.

Many golfers do not hesitate to cough out dough for drivers but yet for a putter, few golfers are paying enough attention. If you are consummate with a putting stick and let's say you do two putts per hole that will add up to 36 strokes. That is half your score gone if you play to even par based on regulation on for your game. How important is the putter and putting for you now? Please see my previous articles on putters which I hope will provide a breakthrough in terms of easy information to help you select a most suitable putter. The best putters are milled putters in terms of purity and softness manufactured by using a computerised CNC milling machine. Watch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fJpNFO15mw

The best putters out there in the market in 2010:
Bettinardi "BB Series" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogay8kVrl4Y
Bettinardi like Scotty Cameron are real people whose expertise are in state-of-the-art putter designs just like Bob Vokey is to wedges. They make high end CNC-milled putters and have a large following and their fans. Bettinardi putters has an unique honey-combed design.

Odyssey "White Ice" -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0I9hNNduZWc

Odyssey was bought by Callaway years ago and probably sells the most putters around the world. They gave you the two-ball putter which saw sales jumped up a notch and continued to unleash a slew of new products with innovation and variation in putter designs like the Sabre Tooth and they toyed with all kinds of inserts using compounds to give you better feel, etc.
Ping "IWI", "IN", "Redwood", "Karsten" & the latest Scottsdale Anser 2

Ping invented perimeter weighting for the putter and later introduced them to irons and the rest - http://gforce-guru.blogspot.com/2009/01/ping.html
IN - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlSSK5Kqb20

Redwood (precision milled) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OANHapsqqec

Karsten - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkLv81pRwMs

Scottsdale - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WLm6PVS73c - the Scottsdale is Ping's latest offer built for consistent response and solid feel with high contrast. It comes in various models like Anser 2, B60 and mallets. I like the dark colour as it prevents reflection of light to hit your eyes when you are looking down.

TaylorMade "Rossa" -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdZODgKP6Dw - the work of master craftsman Kia Ma.

Titleist "Scotty Cameron California Monterey" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2z9_z36WdA - this is as good as if not better than the Studio Select Newport 2. It is milled from 303 stainless steel and the head went through a chroming process they called honey-dipped. It has a similar flared toe and in its usual elements provides great feedback with a classic and elegant look. It comes in a colour called "French Vanilla" which I like even if I do not know what it means simply because it will not reflect sunlight into your eyes.

Titleist "Scotty Cameron Newport 2" -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21NuyeEKcVg&feature=rec-LGOUT-exp_r2-2r-1-HM - the above seems to be an updated version. This is the one that Tiger and I use. I have since stop changing putters since I had this and have never been putting better before.

With steel prices going up, I am not sure if your putters are coming from some drain covers. Do consider having a good and suitable putter for your game. Good luck.

Golf as in life, play as it lies.
