Mazda 6 - New Launch 2013

I last attended a car launch when Mazda introduces the CX-5.

I was invited again and this time it was held at the Red Dot Museum. Synonymous with the previous launch there was a red carpet welcome and greetings from staffs and some tall and elegant models. I am very impressed with the new 6's design and launching it at the Red Dot was most fitting. This is why the previous "6" is one of the most popular mid-size sedan in Europe and several continents.

We were greeted by Mazda pro Mr. Jack Thiang of course!

A sumptuous meal was provided starting with Peking Duck where a chopstick was stuck right in like you would do to a vampire and I think they do that to vampires because the heart is where evil or good resides. Everything starts and ends there.

There were plenty of scallops but the sashimi queue was so long and continuous that I gave up on it.

I opted for the simple and humble laksa.

Then some stupendous desserts nicely decorated with Mazda logo.

The Kirin beer was undeniably lovely to wash things down a bit.

What is all this without the lovely and heavenly sound of live music.

At the events hall, there was high anticipation for the unveiling.

Much like unveiling the bride. Lo and behold she came.

One look and it can make your knees go weak.

My oh my she's a Maneater! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbevQH1B9ic (Hall and Oates)

The front and end boast aggressive styling making it more masculine than the predecessor it is replacing.

The front grille reminds me somewhat of the Mercedes Benz CLS especially the line that cuts across the hood just above the grille.

She is curvy and sexy at all the right places. May I have your attention please. I am talking about the car.

Well matched sports rim wearing rubber shoe size of 225x45x19.

With a longer wheel base comes more leg room all round giving the feel of an airy cabin. The light beige leather is soft and plush adding a touch of luxury. It appears very tall people may suffer head bumps when speeding over humps due to the sweeping roof-line behind that arch back but surprisingly there is enough clearance.

Dual colour door panels brings contrast to light up the interior and it slammed shut with enough muscle to indicate immaculate fitting.

According to Mazda, the three dimensional sculpted chrome trim behind was inspired by the Japanese Samurai sword. They used to use them in battle and to cut heads (you should watch this critically acclaimed movie that is violent and gruesome - the "13 Assassins":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgPC74-Tde8 ) but this design was just to leave an impression as one drives away.

The body is accentuated with flowing lines like well-toned muscles.

Clearance is good enough for your loading and unloading.

Boot is a massive 489 litres. No problem for vacation or golf bags.

Large wing mirrors provide clear and unobstructed views.

Well defined wheel arches gives character.

Head turning characteristics are everywhere.

A beauty ain't it?

LED daytime running light illuminates without blinding even during the day.

This man seemed flabbergasted as he gesticulated. May be he was saying: "With car prices and DP/loan scheme like that, how to buy, how to buy?!!" Exasperation! Aarggh!!

If you are good looking then you are good looking from any angle. You either have it or you don't.

What is brawn without brain? Charisma without character? Mazda featured i-ELOOP, a regenerative braking system that captures energy and stores it in a dual-layer capacitor. It is disconnected under acceleration allowing engine power to drive the wheels. It connects when decelerating so that it charges the capacitor which drives the car's electronics saving more fuel.

I like the clean bonnet with flowing lines!

I have little time and space to get intimate.

Just look at all the flashes.

The fascia and layout is uncluttered and functional. There is a metallic trim on the dashboard perhaps to break the monotone and be more eye-catching. Gear trimmings are satin-chromed and polished aluminium finishes.

I love Mazda's steering wheel. It is thick, strong and bold. The steering wheel is the contact between the car and the driver and wrapped with the finest leather in Japan. Paddle shift is standard.

Sporty meters gives a dash of class with their silver linings.

The Pearl White is as alluring.

Mazda added a staggering 100mm to its wheel base meaning a spacious cabin with lots of leg room.

The 6 will be using Mazda's Skyactiv technology first found on the CX-5. Its focus is on reducing weight and improving efficiency of combustion engines. The engines are lighter, cleaner and greener.

Skyactiv-G petrol engine has an ultra-high compression ratio which I think should make it more vocal under the hood. It drives a high compression ratio of 13.0:01.

Mazda engine is smooth and does not clatter even when idling.

It has been said that if BMW makes a front wheel drive car this is how it may feel like.

She measures at 36x24x36. Just kidding. It's (L) 4.865 x (W) 1.840 x (H) 1.450.

The car is almost 100 kg lighter than a Ford Mondeo using high strength steel but with careful placement of materials and weights just as you would when building a golf club.

Here's bringing sexy back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snyzX14JkHM (Justin Timberlake)

$how me the money. Me?

A natural choice for me if I were to change from the current servant.

This is a great looking car that will please both the driver and passengers no end. Plenty of space, comfort, drive-ability,  equipment level, fuel economy, reliability, handling, performance, intuitive functionality, distinctive design and exceptional responsiveness. This will be highly desired but at $165-$180k, I would like the dashboard and knobs to be more Audi-like. Still this is a shining beacon for Mazda's engineering and design.

They come in 8 colours - Soul Red Metallic, Blue Reflex Mica, Meteor Grey Mica, Jet Black Mica, Stormy Blue Mica, Aluminium Metallic, Snowflake White Pearl Mica and Arctic White. A test drive one day.

Mazda's production concept is called the "Takeri" concept and its design language is called "Kodo" - Soul of Motion. Mazda called its red colour as "Soul Red" denoting passion, power, brilliance and depth. My soul is red now. I am dreaming.
