Seletar Hills Restaurant - Revisit

It is hard to get value-for-money restaurant food and yet expect good food that is traditional but tucked away in certain corners of tiny Singapore, you can actually find nuggets of gold. To test the consistency of the quality and taste, you have to go back at different times to find if they are still good. So we headed down to Jalan Selaseh to revisit the Seletar Hill Restaurant. Please find my first report: http://gforce-guru.blogspot.sg/2012/02/seletar-hill-restaurant.html

It is a pleasant estate of private homes with a small park and old shop houses with limited car park space so you have to find a proper place to park if you drive.
Part of the fun is in anticipation.

But many Singaporeans are impatient. They expect immediate service to their needs like they know how customer service should be all about. However, when at work themselves, they quickly and conveniently forgot how to attend to people or to provide a decent service. I fear for the traditional and older but smaller restaurants faced with rising rental and costs, lack of man power, etc. and the younger generation not wanting to continue. We will be the poorer for it over time.

You don't have to do shark fins which are not only more expensive and avoid cruelty to sharks but fish maw soup can and do taste as good yet provide more nutrition.

Slurp it up and be happy.

The Camphor Tea Smoked Duck is excellent. One of their signature dishes.

Tonnes of vegetables are murdered each day for human consumption. These French Beans with the sambal are out of this world! You will finish every strand of it.

The prawns were large and very well done. It came with some mayonnaise running through it.

Braised Pork Belly which you put in a bun with the gravy dripping. You can get down and dirty using your hands but you would not bother once you have taken a bite.

There are other dishes like claypot sea cucumber and cold dish (very good garlic pork and heh cho)  if you order the set but the one that takes the cake for me is the red garoupa, deep-fried and simmered in a special chili sauce. The meat was very fresh and good that you probably won't get enough.

You then wash them all down and proper by finishing with a small glass of chendol. It is very good with proper gula melaka.

Good food at reasonable prices. When do you want to join me?
