EPL 2014/15 Game Week 36

Three more weeks! Somehow many guys will catch up on their weekend sleep again. Some may suddenly realise they are married and have a wife. Others have nothing to look forward to. Meanwhile, everyone are concerned about exorbitant TV prices. When will the limit be breached? Meantime, enjoy the last three matches from this weekend. Cheers!

Everton v Sunderland - After some very encouraging displays and that thumping all out 3-0 win over Man Utd., how could they fall by losing at Villa. At 11th place, there is nothing to fight for except pride. Sunderland picked up four points in their last two matches an away draw at Stoke and home win over Southampton which were two unlikely results. They are on 33 points after 34 matches and a win here will see them leapfrog over the next four teams above them. Its life and death now. Historical head to head both sides are level after five matches with only a single draw the rest being a single goal margin. Will the Black Cats have nine lives? 1-1.

Aston Villa v West Ham - Villa have been one of the most improved and rejuvenated teams of late. After not scoring for sometime they now could not stop scoring. They have been scoring three goals, beaten Tottenham away and won both against Merseysiders Liverpool and Everton. They lost narrowly against City scoring twice. West Ham finally won at home against lowly Burnley 1-0. Villa on 35 points means they could be overtaken and end up relegated if they are not careful. Christian Benteke is the chief reason for Villa's revival. He may just score again here. 2-1.

Hull v Burnley - This is a cruel tie. The Tigers could still go down while Burnley's candles are flickering in the wind and can be snuffed up any time and their recent form suggested they may be resigned to their fate having chalked up four losses all most unfortunately by 1-0. Hull have been on song having beaten Palace away and Liverpool at home after straight losses earlier but crumbled to Arsenal. Burnley need history to come to their rescue as last five matches head to head favoured Burnley who won four and lost once against Hull and even won two both matches away to Hull. There were no history of draws. It is a fight to the death where only one would emerge victorious. Problem is Burnley have not scored in at least the last five matches. 2-1.

Leicester v Southampton - Except for the loss to Chelsea, the Foxes have done themselves a big favour. They won all their games to climb up to 16th. The Saint are in relative decline having lost again. Their old records are almost equal but they do not do draws. Leicester were impressive against Newcastle and with home ground advantage at Filbert Street and to be sure of survival they must win. 2-1.

Newcastle v WBA - The Magpies are in the worst form of their lives, nine straight losses. They may even face the drop if they continue this way. Whatever happened to them? The Baggies last three matches were solid achievements - beating top form Palace away, holding Liverpool goalless and shocked Man Utd 1-0 away but Newcastle have a good record against WBA especially at home where they have often won in the past. Do you think Newcastle will lose all their remaining matches? Did you expect red hot Palace to lose at home to WBA who themselves were on a losing streak. I have a soft spot for the Magpies. Home win. 2-1.

Stoke v Tottenham - Both teams last five matches with various opponents yielded identical results. Tottenham have a good record versus Stoke and Britannia are no longer the fortress they once were and seems to be Tottenham's favourite hunting ground as they often win there. Tottenham played well last week against Man City last week and Harry Kane did well and were closed to scoring. I pick Tottenham to win with goals coming from Kane, Chadli or Erikson. 1-2.

Crystal Palace v Manchester United - Palace's super form has collapsed and have since lost three in a row. A similar fate befell Manchester United, their good run went flat and they have lost three in a row but United have won 11 in 13 meetings with Palace and have kept a clean sheet at Selhurst Park in their last four visits. History favours United strongly here but while winning their title last week, Chelsea master of the 1-0 wins, struggled to break Palace. We can venture a home win but I say draw. 1-1.

Manchester City v QPR - City have came back with three straight wins but QPR have not won in four and remained anchored second from last but their old records against City aren't too bad and will go all out to fight for their survival but City would be too good for them. 2-1.

Chelsea v Liverpool - Chelsea have deservedly won the title and have consistently showed their class. They destroyed Liverpool last season to help Manchester City to the title and there is no better joy than for Liverpool to pull one over their nemesis. Nemesis because in their last five head to head encounter, Liverpool have never won save for a 1-1 draw. Liverpool must bring out all their resources and guns firing for they are fighting for a berth in Europe with three games remaining and four points adrift of the Red Devils. The obstacle gets tougher as the match is at Stamford Bridge. It will take a super effort to triumph here. Liverpool may have to wait a little longer as they do not have the resources to do it yet. 2-1.

Arsenal v Swansea - The Gunners seem unstoppable now but the Swans are back to wining but this is an away game at the Emirates. When you go to the Emirates London and Etihad Manchester, you can get confused. Arsenal's historical encounter with Swansea read 3-1-1 (W/D/L). Their match results were often quite close  but this Arsenal are in great momentum. Home win. 3-1.
