Return To Ubin - Part 1

There was some misunderstanding over the future of Pulau Ubin recently that has since been clarified. Now, Ubin will be kept as it is for "as long as possible". I dread a day may come where HDB starts to appear there or some kind of retirement homes. I do not mind retiring there though.

Whatever the future holds, I am not waiting. I would like to go to Pulau Ubin as often as time permits for as long as possible. Lots of wonderful  food awaits you at the Changi Village hawker centre. Good nasi lemak, mee rebus, beef noodle and many other hawker fare followed by a short boat trip. It always bring back lots of fond memories for me as granny would bring me on such boat trip when she visited a relative at Pulau Tekong when I was a child. So here we go.

This time, more than anything else, we were there to shoot.

We were grateful that it was a sunny day. I always look behind from where we came on a boat to watch the water trails. I was just looking from the other side recently after golf.

The beautiful white clouds on a clear blue sky was simply awesome and I thought to myself, what a wonderful world.

And these rocks that stood there for time immemorial.

The feel being here is really special.

Even better if you could soak in every detail or corners of the island. Perhaps you just  have visit it many times to go to different parts of the island. The beauty is incomparable because no man-made places will ever come close to such natural beauty.

Old houses like this were so much a thing of the past and for the older folks, this was our childhood.

A distant jetty in all its splendour.

This is possibly one of the best houses at Ubin. There is a lawn outside, it was fenced up and it was directly overlooking and right next to the sea and very near the jetty if you ever need to go to the mainland. It is also the safest as it is next to the Police Coast Guard.

Old styled coffee shops or eating places are all over.

Uncles from past era continue to ply their trade.

We wanted to visit Chek Jawa so we book a van from Uncle Moh who operates two vans with his wife driving the other.

Would it be nice to live in a house by the sea?

Bicycles shops are everywhere, some with very new bikes. Be very careful if you wish to ride a bicycle here. Watch the curves and slopes and do not go off track if you are not familiar. Follow the flat main road and you shall be alright. No one should get hurt enjoying a bike ride.

There are seafood restaurants to satify your hunger. Take a look at the menu.

Another typical kampung house.

I shot a butterfly after following it for some time but the wasp got away most unfortunately.

Hibiscus were plenty during my childhood days but you don't see much of them these days. I found one here.

These flowers can be used to make "kueh".

There are long and winding roads.

These banana leaves would be so good to serve with food.

We came to a quarry. We missed out on the last visit. Look at its serenity.

There are some fallen logs here.

Still water runs deep.

A reflection from the quarry.

Suggesting how deep it really is.

You can be fined. Bring $2,000 in case you got fined twice.

Here we are.

Do you know where you are going to?

They should get people to hold up these signs at the far end of a golf course to tell you if you had sliced your shots.

Young man in deep thoughts. It is a good thing to be in thoughts.

We found a durian trees. These kampung durians are to me the best durians to me. No frills and really good durians.

This is the backyard of another kampung house.

Maple Leaf? I thought I was in Canada.

This is a mongrel? Pariah? An Ubin dog.

To Be Continued...watch this space.
