Buffet

I am not talking Warren here. Warren Buffet.

Do you love buffets? Judging by Singaporeans' penchant for food, if you are Singaporean and do not like buffets, you are like a clean and upright person living or working in a corrupt environment and you become the bad guy.

Not that Singaporeans are entirely clean but being humans there will be temptation everywhere nevertheless and being too clean has its problems too, people these days have less resistance as a result. Less resistance viruses, to corruption, less resistance to vices like gambling and sexual temptations and less resistance to food that are not 100% clean. That is why now your buffet has a four hour time-frame for best consumption so when attending a buffet even at a house gathering, do not be late and like fishing - do not take away or "da pao".

Welcome to Buffet Town. Singapore itself is like a whole buffet town. So the name here is apt. The former Shokudo is now Buffet Town at Raffles City.

As usual, there will be a Q there but just wait to be seated and you do not have to wait long. Better to make a reservation though.

You can't complain about the price considering you can eat all you want. That is precisely the problem with buffet. Once in there, you may love to try everything and just a bit of everything is always a little too much! At this price point, the question is do you get quality other than quantity?

If you have a group of more people with prior reservation, they have your tables waiting for you.

The seafood section is very popular as fresh crayfish and scallop abounds.

Flower crabs too. The problem as always is that you will get to see people piling up their plates like there is no tomorrow and it looks somewhat ugly. Why don't they consider for others lining up and they can always come back for second helpings? It's like you sign up a year's package for yoga or spa and then consume it all on the same day. So people should wise up and do their spa and yoga like paying for their buffet and have their buffet like their spa. Spa owners take note, not all spas or yoga centres are bad hats just like friends. Just be discerning.

Oh yes, the usual suspect - the sashimi as one can see here is delightful. The slices are quite chunky and generous in portion. We should know why bears are so huge and strong. Their hearts can go to sleep during hibernation and they won't die. Let me share a previous article on grizzly bears:

Flower crabs are sweet but not as meaty as their mud crab cousins. The problem with crustaceans is that you have to crush them.

Squids or sotong can be very delectable when done well. This one with the sambal chili was good. The satay was very good too as the meat was tender and portion generous though the peanut gravy is a tad sweet.

There are many more variety of food to go around but I am no glutton. Plenty of dessert choices to titillate your taste bud.

I tried a few and end up with the Grand Finale of Green Tea Ice Cream with Crepe. Only one thing that was missing prevented it from being stupendous. Japanese red beans.

It went down well with the younger set.

The Seniors are fine with it.

Most importantly, the whole family agreed.

I would like to thank the sponsor - my beloved elder sister for the wonderful time together and the treat. I deserve more sponsors too.

So what are your thoughts on "buffetology"?
