Connecting People

Image
Some folks email or sms me when they read or receive my blog articles a little later than usual. They are able to do this because the world now is mobile. This means that there are people out there reading my articles and some are expecting each publication every Friday or over the weekend. This is a good thing. Like when I told you that I played a great round of golf you believe me? I mean I can say what I want. Last week I did "tree under" (not three under). I offer views and provide intimate information on golf and golf equipment which you will not find anywhere else and all these are done with knowledge gained from experience, experiment and definitely to your benefit. The best part is that I do it without support of free golf equipment from retailers either from the golf companies or their distributors. This is so that my views are clearly impartial and they have to interest me or have something to offer before they can even get on my blog. If ever the day comes an

National Issue - Birth Rate

I've just got Morocco coming in. Welcome! That is the 62nd country. It is not just about minding our language these days as everywhere you go, profanities seems too common. Maybe people think it sounds cool. I know all of these collected from years of experience and national service and they can even come in different dialects and languages. Is it cool? Jay Chou said it in his trailer for the Green Hornet: "Want to see something gool?" That has to do more with pronunciation - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uDBVYKganE Talking about pronunciation, if you are a pilot and the airport control tower official tells you to go onto runway 5R you may get confused and turn into 5L as people could get mistaken 5 Are-ler and 5 ell-ler and then it becomes an error, so why don't they just remove or change them 5R and 6L or something like that. Do not be shocked if a foreigner comes up to you and ask you about the coming Singapore Erection. The Election has to do with politics w

Gastronomy

Image
What is gastronomy? Gastronomy is the art and science of good eating. It is really the study of food and culture but usually the focus is on gourmet cuisine given such a fierce word. There is something about the society, art, science, history, presentation, freshness and quality in relation to food. So what do we call gluttons? Gastronomers? It's gastronomes but they are not gluttons. Drunkards check in to Alcoholic Anonymous so do gluttons check in to Gastronomic Anonymous so no one really know you are a glutton. Let's start with a little gourmet. I used to see SIA planes boldly splashed with "California here I come". I'll just let you in a little - when you can't go to Hokkaido let Hokkaido come to you.   I must try the crab sandwich someday.   A simple selection is the set lunch where you can choose salmon or wagyu beef. It comes with a plate of healthy salad, miso soup, 6 slices of shake (salmon), mag

Human Beings

Human beings are complicated. Very often we do not even understand one another. There was a Japanese who once told me that the blind man was coming to his home which led me to think of a man with a white cane but what he actually meant was the contractor was going to fix his blinds. Another time, a Japanese expatriate came to my younger colleague and asked for information which everyone heard was "passport", "which is the passport?" So that colleague shot back "what passport are you talking about". What he actually asked was "which is the first port?" They don't say coffee but cohhee making their "f" sounds like "h". Say one person's "f" word is another person's "h" word. I wonder what would happen if a senior VIP in your office comes over to the shredding machine and pass you some important documents and point to the machine. As you slot them into the shredding machine and you c

Bridges

Image
What Are Bridges? Bridges are built to span across physical obstacles like road, bodies of water or valleys so that a passage is provided for vehicles, people and goods to move. Stones and rocks in a river or fallen trees can be a bridge. Ancient Romans were great bridge builders. Chinese bridges existed during the time of the Warring States with the oldest being the Zhaozhou Bridge. Rope bridges were used by the Inca civilization in the Andes. After a breakthrough in technology, the first cast iron bridge was built in England in 1779. Then wrought iron was introduced before larger bridges were built with steel. There are all kinds of bridges - movable bridges which are electrically-powered for traffic and boats to move through, suspension bridge that are suspended by cable, arch bridges, cable bridges, beam bridges and cantilever bridges. Usage Of Bridges Bridges are designed for many different purposes. Some are for vehi
