BB's The Bungy Bar

There are bars and there are bars. Some have themes that attract crowds which come and go. I remember Peppermint Park and Atlantis. Lavish skyline filled with stars and underwater theme respectively. There used to be Studio M, Ridley's, Subway, etc. Good live bands can be interesting and niche clubs are places to see and to be seen. Been there done that. Check. Not every gimmick lasts. Few do. Those who know the Yard knew they have been around. Sometimes, maybe you just wanted a place to meet, to talk and to have good beers to chill out with good friends. Maybe you are a tourist and you wanted to experience several things at the same time then this is the place to be. B.B.'s The Bungy Bar. You can say the Best Bar or the Best Beer too.

Where the happening place used to be at Boat Quay, Clarke Quay is now the more happening and Bungy Bar lies smack right in the corner where the Q-Max Reverse Bungy is. Many of you who wish to buy a house quite often wants a corner house, that's what you get here. The Deck here is a nice place to hang loose and let your hair down even for a few strand.

Those who enjoy having their internal organs re-arranged can opt to try out the Reverse Bungy nearby. Those who believe they should not be throwing good money to make themselves suffer and puke or pee in their pants can simply sit down at Bungy Bar to enjoy their variety of Premuim Beers while soaking in the atmosphere of the tension of folks who know no better and about to be launched into the stratosphere or enjoy their blood-curdling screams occasionally. Then contrast it with the beer you sip on each time and you will realise how good it is to just sit down and have your beer. You can't say that "we ain't have no time to have that beer". G-Max Reverse Bungy

The Singapore River was where all the action was as it was the mouth that brought goods into Singapore. A historical site. It used to be said that a blind man knew when his bus stop came by just smelling the river as it used to be crammed with tong kang (boats) and was somewhat filthy before they cleaned it up. This is the view from the deck. Now lots of fish live in it. I have an aunt and cousins who used to live at North Boat Quay and I would sometimes stay there over the holidays. The river really smells back then and was dark, probably black in colour. During the day, you will see coolies working there - strong old men carrying bags of rice on a weeny plank stretched across the tong kang (boat) and the wharf. The streets were dimly lit at night and the whole place wreaks of a pungent combination of smells of the river and whatever food like corn that were brought in. If you have been in a port or where trains come into town with goods, you will appreciate what I mean about the smells. Talking about trains and smells, then you must listen to this beautiful Chinese Folk Song 沙里洪巴: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8itFKjo3zko -"...see the camel train approaching, Sha Li Hong Ba, ai ai ai." softly in the winds comes a scent of roses, Sha Li Hong Ba...

It is quite fun and enjoyable to have some tourists and students on excursion on River Taxis waving at and shouting at you as if they are your fans. I mean, after a few drinks you are already feeling a like star. But do not pee into the river as that would be an offence and the authorities will haul you up and chop off whatever is the source of the waste you dump and use it as fishing bait. Haha, just kidding. Don't freak out from what you may have read from some uninformed sources about Singapore. We are having lots of fun here and it sure is funky.

The cosy corner at the end nearer the bungy is cool too on higher bar stools.

Feng Shui and Chinese traditions believe you must have mountains or hills and water as signs of good luck and prosperity. You 'll find both and plenty here. At the back as you can see here, you may catch a trishaw and right across the road is Fort Canning, a historical site where many rock concerts and performances by top artistes around the world are being held these days. 游 山玩 水 literally means to swim the hills and play with water.

The river and the surrounding is magically transformed by night. A cool breeze brushing gently against your face is the order of the day.

Sitting at the bar can be a really nice treat. Just like at a sushi bar. You can choose to catch your favourite sports here too in and outside the bar. EPL soccer or rugby and F1.

Nothing is complete without good, premium beer. I am sure you know Australia's strict reputation and policy of many things going into the country requiring fumigation. The quality of their agriculture, the food, meat, fruits, water and beers must be that good. Foster and VB (Victoria Bitter) are favourites.

Those who are more conscious must reach out for that Pure Blonde. I'm talking about the beer mate! Don't get slap for nothing. I was told that six glasses of Pure Blonde is equal to a slice of bread. If you are too lazy to chew bread, just go for that liquid bread. More reasonable than IV drip.

Can you see a Pure Blonde here? If you did, you have been drinking too much.

This is a special beer that you must try too. The Red Rock. Ask Adrian when you see him for the story. If you can say Red Rock twenty times in quick succession without letting your tongue slip he may decide to give you a few potato chips or fries or maybe he will just send you home in a taxi. Look at the glass and you can see a good beer is not left wasted lying around. Organisms have no chance to grow into a fish in it, evolve into a gorilla, tarzan or a lady. It is usually gulp down nice and cold leaving you happy and foaming at the mouth.

Here is Adrian with his mane before he gave it for children's charity and save lots on shampoo. I like.

Here is Adrian and Adrian with yours truly. Now, if you could say Adrian, Adrian....twenty times...Adrian Sim is on my right and Adrian Oh to my left.

Even when there is a band playing there, you can pick your spot where you want to be and oh don't forget the chicken wings there. Special recipe. Must try. I saw an old couple who were probably tourists sitting down and enjoying their beer while watching young people waiting their turns at the reverse bungy. Each time the bungy shot up into the air they would go Ooohh!!! and went laughing away like a young couple. I saw groups of friends gathering together and enjoying their drinks. Beer can make people feel lighter, happier, friendlier and couple that with good companions, it is lovely. Good friendship like a nice cold beer is magic! But keep that friendship warm. Memories like these always bring me a tear or two especially in the evening...here's Rolling Stones with "As Tears Go By" -
