Gurame

Gurame is acutally a fish. Its scientific name is Osphronemus Gouramy. I know some of you eat anything then you are called Eatus Anythingus. Gurame is actually to some a "longkang" fish or a pond or freshwater fish. Some claimed that its taste is like that of a Barramundi. It is probably the same family type of fish that some of you may have reared in your aquarium as "Gourami". In English I suspect it is actually the Giant Gurami that some folks reared in tanks or ponds. This Gurame fish is very popular in Indonesia and today they are many fish farms breeding this type of fish. Most good Indonesian restaurants should serve this dish. They would deep-fried the fish and make it in a standing position with the flesh carved out and you use a mild spicy, sour, sweet and simply belacan to dip with.

I have passed by this "Gurame" Indonesian Restaurant quite frequently but have never set foot in it. So I decided to ask a few friends over for lunch. We were early and you can see staff still sprucing up shop.

It was a hot day but the beauty of this place made you forget the toil before and after. Blue sky day with clouds gliding by. 

I read that we have just recorded the least rainfall for a total of 27 days without rain since a long time. Evidence of it can be seen everywhere from reservoir, ponds to parched grass. Some states in Malaysia are into water rationing and one other declared an emergency. We have done well here. So please be very aware of how you use water everyday, consciously.

I spotted a lone windsurfer far away. Note to self: Staring at clouds can be quite therapeutic. 

This is a great spot for a meal or drinks in the evening. Great to have a house like that by the sea.

A hut for your further indulgence.

I have a penchant for this drink - avocado with gula melaka. The one at Alexandria is very good. Sometimes, I would get this from a fruit stall if they sell it. Healthy.

Satay is always great to eat. Easy, convenient and delicious but these here are quite huge and the gravy for your dip is very different. A nice departure from the usual fare you often get as it gives you a special flavour.

I find it impossible not to have rendang wherever they serve rendang. The beef rendang here is oh so tender. Perhaps I should have rendang more frequently. My first taste of rendang was mutton rendang as a kid and I have never forgotten the greatness of rendang. If you come here, then you should have this.

Kang kong is a local favourite. The one here is not spicy enough for me. Do you realise that in different countries they like their kang kong differently. Some like the leaves while others actually like and therefore serve you more of the stems.

Tahu Telor with that special sweet sauce. 

Indonesian food is always great. In fact, most of today's Malay food has great influence from Indonesian  friends such as satay and nasi padang, etc. I saw a friend Asrori posted on his facebook on Warong at Killiney Road. 

Note to self: must pay them a visit.
