Daddy's Day

Joshua 1:9 - ...Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. This is my encouragement to all fathers. Fathers put on a tougher exterior so often suffer in silence but the father by design is the de facto head of the household regardless and need to lead. Bringing up children and leading a family is no simple task. One way to lead by example is to work with your spouse but between man and woman itself it is not easy. Watch this video and see for yourself:

For every mother's son, if are you looking for wisdom, therefore, success and happiness, you do not need to get enrolled in a professional seminar that will cost you thousands. I shall share with you how later. Children need role models and examples because no matter how we teach our children, they learn best through examples meaning they may not do what you say but they do what you do. They become like you. As Gollum said in LOTR: "I am you and you is me". My precioussssssssssssss.

Fathers can never be like mother nor become as important. This is a proven fact for if you were to be born now, your mother could immediately feed you but not your dad.

Fathers are not entirely useless. They do walk the dog, carry out the trash, stretch your sofa's leather and pay bills and I am talking about the better ones here. Regardless of these, we fathers will have to teach our children from the time they are young. Many will try to teach their children to be smart so that they can make a lot of money. If you see something wrong with this sentence, continue reading. It is okay to be smart but to "make a lot of money"? Nothing wrong to make a lot of money but when the emphasis is to make lots of money, life takes on a different meaning.

The world today is like this. We chase success and money without questions. We want to follow other people's success blindly but the success you want are the big houses and exotic cars. A father's teaching is very important. Your children may appear not to have heard you at a critical moment in their lives they can recall what you said. Teach them first "integrity". 1 Chronicles 29:17 says: I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity...". Proverbs 3:32 - For the Lord detests a perverse man but takes the upright into His confidence. Proverbs 10:9 - The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked path will be found out.

Teach them compassion and to fear God. Psalms 103:13 says "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.

Teach them not to resent rebuke - Proverbs 3:11-12 - My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline and do not resent His rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those He loves as a father the son he delights in.

Teach them discernment - Proverbs 17:24 - A discerning man keeps wisdom in view but a fool's eyes wander to the ends of the earth. Share and give them knowledge and teach them understanding, Proverbs 17:27 - A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even tempered. I like it too in AMP version: He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding has a cool spirit. How cool is that?!

Teach them to listen - Proverbs 23:22 - Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Teach righteousness - Proverbs 23:24 - The father of a righteous man has great joy, he who has a wise son delight in him.

Do not embitter, provoke or exasperate - Ephesians 6:4 - Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Colossians 3:21 - Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. Teach them that hardship is discipline - Hebrews 12:7, Endure hardship as discipline, God id treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by is father.

Do you agree that children are God's best gift? Even as a father remember that you are also your parents' son. You have to learn on both sides too. Do you know why I highlighted the paragraph on "a man of understanding spares his words, has even temper and a cool spirit?" Not only should you consistently behave and conduct yourself in this manner but every one is watching you including your children. This is also a better way when teaching your children. I have written previous articles on Father's Day. Written by a father for fathers. How's that? I think you should at least read it. You owe it to yourselves.

(see Dads For Life and A Tribute To Fathers)

There are fathers out there right now in a war zone. Fathers whose work and career have an element of danger. I pray for your safe return. There are fathers out there who are somehow separated. I pray for you. There are children out there who says: "I don't have a father" I pray for you. These children's fathers could have really died or they have died in their children's hearts. Be a man, be a really good dad, I pray for you.

Happy Father's Day!
