Krabi Day 1 - Never Been There?

When the going gets tough, the tough gets going...for a vacation. The early bird catches the worm but the early worm gets eaten by the birds. Here we are going somewhere we have never been before - once in a while.

If I have wings... (Bette Midler - Wind Beneath My Wings). This movie and song teaches us to take time off to be with family, loved ones and friends no matter.

First light................http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24qusbJxxGA (Dexter Wansel). When you look at the Universe, we are really so puny and of such little importance. So please don't take yourself or life too seriously.

On the way to the hotel we stop around with the first stop at Tiger Mountain. Anyone mad enough to climb 1,037 steps to get to the top?

Construction of a pagoda. Does this depict the Boh Tree that Buddha sat under and received enlightenment?

The clouds came down low here.

Sawasdee krab. Performing the Krabi Rap! - An original composition from the Guru as a gift to the people of Krabi - "Here's the love yo. Yeah, yeah, the love yo. I was adamant to come to the Andaman, to relax one corner and have no bother. No time to think, just live on instinct. Throw away the watch and not be caught in a time capsule of life, I despise the city life and here's my spice - the island life! Yeah, yeah, the love yo. We like the Tom Yum soup and the photo shoot and feeling a little crabby. The love yo."

Street food is OK if you have the stomach for it. The corns and sweet potatoes were very sweet.

Krabi is a town on the west coast of southern Thailand. It perhaps has the country's oldest history of settlement. Like the more popular and commercialised Phuket, it is facing the Andaman Sea.

Krabi is different from say Phuket or even Koh Samui. It is even more laid back and less commercialised. Even the Tuk-Tuk is different. It is also less modern, a little like Koh Samui in the beginning when Phuket was already commercialised. (Please see links to my previous articles on Koh Samui).

I like this traffic lights as you can see the figurine of a man carrying them. That's fun! Singapore should add some of these fun. We want some better ambient while we drive in jams through ERP gantries.

We spotted a Leopard Shark at the aquarium/farm.

Our adopted home for a few days - Ao Nang Villa. It is Four-Star but a bit oldish.

We often take for granted but one of the important things to do when you get to a hotel is to study the escape route in case of emergency. This is because you are in a new environment and if you were sleeping or drinking too much you may wake up suddenly and loose your orientation. You won't understand until you have been through a real emergency. In tall buildings it is the fire escape route. At the sea, tsunami watch.

Several life-like figurines adorn the gardens in and around the hotel.

First slack. It's very important to know how to "relax one corner" in energy saving/screen saver mode. An absolute must when you reached a hotel. Hit the sack! It's an art.

A stream stretches across our hotel room's balcony.

The pool view from the room.

You cannot imagine how happy one can be when you got what you wanted and was not expecting it - red FBT boxing gloves.

First waves...the sea beckons just at the back of the hotel.

Beauty and the beach.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oac4W2VUSZM (Boney M - Boat On A River)

Motor sampan available if you want a ride out to sea. I have always liked Styx and Dennis De Young (Boat On The River): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qm1aoYj8cW8. Some folks told me I sing like Dennis De Young. Don't believe them, I sing better than that.

The ultimate in "relaxing one corner" at a very high level is lying in a hammock swaying between two trees. Those who like me has been there done that would appreciate. I saw these at a shop and wanted to get one but forgotten about it. Aw shucks!

Wish you were here with me. Tiny bars and pubs by the beach are everywhere.

Imagine having a meal with your coffee or tea here with the sound of the sea as backdrop and not a care in the world.

Or drinking ice cold beer, sipping on rum or a pina colada!! Here's Rupert Holmes with Escape: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsZ5a5UQvrs

June has some rainfall at Krabi but they were sporadic and mild. Going away as suddenly as they came. We were greeted by a lovely rainbow. I am still searching for that pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Or is it simply God's promise never to flood the entire world again? I want you to listen to Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole and his beautiful delivery of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" with a ukulele. He was always obese and at one time weighed 343 kg. and stood at 6 ft. 2in. Sadly he died at age 38 of weight-related respiratory illness. 10,000 people attended his funeral in Hawaii and his ashes were scattered into the Pacific Ocean in 1997.

Tanta's is where East meets West. Local Thai food if you like or Western menu.

When in Rome, do what the Romans do, so I did the Phad Thai.

And the Tom Yum Goong.

Oh and this coconut shake is to die for!!

Breakfast!!

Day break, the sun is coming up soon. In the morning, sure you will love this one by the Bee Gees - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmWdOvg6v1k&feature=related. I used to strum a guitar and play this song and absolutely love it.

Shopping lah!! What else?! I met a boy Gopal who told me his grandfather is Indian but his dad married his mother from Myanmar and at 16 years old he came alone to set up a small shop at Krabi. Bargaining and haggling is necessary just to know you won't get ripped off but once you offered half the price anything you pay at this price point or even a little more is no problem.
