Why Must All Good Things Come To An End?

All good things must come to an end? You will experience this and would some times hear people lament about it. You have a bunch of good friends at school, in the neighbourhood, during national service or a great bunch of people at work then for a variety of reasons, you left school, completed NS or people move from the estate, the country or change jobs and then the good times which you shared together can never be the same again.

Sometimes in life, you hit a purple patch, the world seems such a beautiful place and the potential and possibilities seem limitless - you play great golf, make good money, promotions, make a killing in property or stock, your relationships flourish, you can do no wrong. Then suddenly something went wrong and you go into a tailspin spiralling uncontrolled - it could be due to a bad decision, your own arrogance, a misjudgement, a great friendship was ended due to a misunderstanding, a relationship gone sour or may be something that is not even your own fault, a fight with your spouse or a setback at work or in your business. Some can be quite serious that you see your world crumbling before you. Must all good things come to an end?

Plan/Control v Reality

You may have your best-laid plans but how often do our plans work to the "T"? First of all we have to take personal responsibility for our own life - what we think, say or do. Your plans are just for a direction but you will soon realise that the fact remains that we do not often control what happens in life. For no man is an island so we have people but people can be a blessing or a hindrance in reality. We can learn tremendously from others' experience and knowledge by knowing them. Learning makes us a better person whether you are the boss, a friend, an employee or a family member.

In the same vein, people can be a hindrance when the people we meet in our lives act like selfish brutes or betray our trust. With or without malice, their selfish actions can create conflicts and consequences in our lives too. Consider your career, the company may downsize or the owners sell out and immediately you can wake up to a new reality. Whatever it is, we need to embrace it as it comes taking what life gives to us because a new door opens when an old one shuts.

Why Do All Good Things Come To An End?

Why do all good things come to an end? therefore, may need a rephrase or some re-thinking. Life is like a mirror. Humans are very capable of self-destruction. We can self-sabotage by being selfish or becoming arrogant or when we take things for granted. We self-destruct on the golf course and your opponent don't even need to do a thing. Some times some things good come along but we may reject it because they are new and we do not feel comfortable embracing it.

Probably most of us do carry some baggage of the past - past hurts, childhood disillusionment. May be you are a person deprived of love from young so you can feel no love and will reject it. You prefer to create anger and hatred. May be you want everyone to feel like you - without love. Regardless, the fact remains that no one could make you unhappy unless you give them permission to. Ponder carefully and realise that whatever had happened in the past, you have the power to drop the old emotional baggage and start anew. In fact, as you should be aware, everyday is a new day. You have the power to ensure that all good things need not come to an end.

Inevitable

Unfortunately, it is inevitable that some things in life including the good ones will come to an end. It could be a place, a time, a season, a childhood, a love, a memory like your old photographs will fade away like a flame in amber glow. Your physical being will fade away. In our time and space, all things will fade. All things are temporal. It is inevitable. The last leaf will fall. All you can do is reflect and relive your life through memories. With misty eyes one day you shall gaze.

Whether you are browsing through old photos or a moment in time which reminds you of someone, an event or place provided you still have your memory. Therefore, the only thing you will probably have is your memory so live your life in such a way that you will have many fond memories and when you look back let your tears be tears of happiness and joy with not an ounce of regret. While all good things will come to an end, all bad things shall come to pass. Whenever a door closes a new one opens. The trick is how we get over the bad ones and look forward to new ones. After the rain there is a rainbow. There is a time for everything.

If only I could save time in a bottle.
