GE 2011

It's exciting isn't it? You have a vote to decide things. Power to democracy! With a very good and prominent government, it can be a tad boring. Sometimes we have it too good, we take things for granted like thinking we should just go for the opposition or just leave it to the ruling party. Are we simply complacent or apathetic lacking interest in politics? If it is, why is it so? Usually being a Saturday, you get to get a day off in lieu so that we do not suffer too much losses if everyone stops work for the day. We go and choose our leaders. Choose your Members of Parliament or a group of MPs in a group of five in case of a GRC. Margaret Thatcher once observed that if you have to tell people you are powerful you aren't. Similarly, I think if you have to tell people you are very smart, you aren't. Truly great leaders gained the respect of others by the way they carry and conduct themselves and not by barking out loud orders. It also always about the Golden Rule isn

Thank God For Sunday

Last week I talked about TGIF! This time I am talking about TGFS - Thank God For Sunday! To people who do not work on Saturdays, the end of Friday gives us a sense of relaxation that the weekend is coming. Some of us treat Sunday as the last day of the weekend but is Sunday the beginning of a new week or for that matter Easter Sunday is the beginning of a new life. Some of us are already moody or edgy come Sunday knowing that a long work week is awaiting you. Why are many people dragging their feet to school or to work yet when the work day is over or when they are leaving for a vacation, they are all motivated and come alive again? When you set your alarm clock at 6am to wake up and go to work, you may not even hear it and yet when you are going for golf you set your alarm at 6am and you automatically wake up at 5am. There is of course an exception for workaholics and those who works from home where they could afford to work from your bed or sleep at your desk. The New Testamen

Hungry Eat What?

In the modern day family nucleus it gets harder to whip up a storm at the kitchen at home. The smaller family unit and when the children or one or two persons when not joining a meal means it gets even harder to prepare a meal. So when even parents are too busy, it gets even harder for everyone to sit down for a meal together. Yet, this is a very important session for family bonding and communication. So we are left with having to have our meals outside. The question is even in Food Paradise Singapore you do not know what to eat. I figure one way to beat the blues is to keep things simple. The simple no frills food like fish soup or fish porridge is really just fish in soup with some vegetables and tofu and with rice. It is really easy to eat and is hearty and healthy. The humble Teochew fish soup and porridge is such. While the Cantonese "chok" (congee) is soft and comes with different base like with pork, century egg and others with raw fish. the Teochew style is simply

It's The Little Things

Golfers are people and people whether golfers or not tend to think of scoring. Nothing wrong with that. You will need a bit of luck, timing, form, etc. but these are things that are not on tap or can be saved as memory as in a computer and repeated all over again. You need consistency and purpose. So one way of scoring is in not trying too hard to score as we may not even have the skills set so what we should aim to do is to do the simple things well and to make less and unnecessary errors. This will keep your score sheet more decent. Often in golf as in life, it is the little things that really count. Let me share some. Loft & Distance Most folks need more loft not less. I know you may feel more macho telling people you play with a 9 degrees lofted driver. Very few people can handle that well. You can have a 9 degrees driver with regular shaft but in Singapore due to the smaller pool they normally bring in 9 degrees in a stiff shaft. A golf ball has to reach an apex in traj
