Maruman Conductor
Maruman was once a clock maker who later invented the world's first electric gas lighter. They were the first among the Japanese to use nano technology for golf clubs and have since been around for 40 years. Like many Japanese companies, Maruman is typical in that it offers a wide range of products for everybody from entry level to the very expensive "Majesty" range that made Forbes List as the most expensive in the world. Like Toyota having the Vios to Lexus.
This means that Maruman know a thing or two about invention, technology, golf and have stood the test of time. Maruman's Conductor brand has won many professional tournaments. If you are among those who favour Japanese clubs, then Maruman should be well known to you. They used to have a very well-known and popular Maruman Shuttle fairway wood. In this Conductor range, they now have a Fairway Wood that features a shallow head with flat top design to enable the club to pick up the ball from various lies with a high trajectory.
This club's 3-wood was built with a 16 degrees loft in a 165 cc head. In the past, all 3-wood were made to have a 15 degrees loft but one at 16 degrees is always going to be more friendly to get airborne and this can be achieved without sacrifices but with technology. You are beginning to see more and more 3-wood coming in at 16 or 15.5 degrees. A bigger head is always a bonus to put more weight behind the ball but one that is too huge is gawky and may feel clumsy so at 165 cc it is about OK. The 42.75 inch shaft helps add a little forgiveness as the usual 3-wood comes in at 43 inches. Total club weight is 311g with a swing weight of D0, a swing weight closely associated with your irons and shaft weight is a very reasonable 50g with a torque at 4.7 and a mid kick point - it all points to a user-friendly club for an easy swing.

The Kallang Roar! (Part Three)

Back in the good old days, we have four other national teams. Besides the National Team (The Lions), we also have a B team (The Cubs). Then we also competed in the Sultan's Gold Cup fielding a team called Singapore Malays. We have the Singapore Indians playing in the Bardhan Cup and the other being the Singapore Chinese team also competing aga inst Malaysian state teams in the same format and also the Ho Ho Cup triangular among Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. In 1976, Englishman Trevor Hartley became responsible for the Singapore team at age 28. The Hainanese

The Hainanese are people from Hainan who originated from Hainan Island - the smallest province of China at the Southern most tip. They were originally fishermen from Fujian and Guandong and later settled over there. The Hainanese, part of the Chinese dispora migrated to different South East Asian countries including late comers to Singapore worked in ships as sailors, opened their own coffee shops or restaurants, bakeries or bars and worked as cooks and chefs and others at local hotels.  Hainanese in Singapore made up 7% of the Chinese population. The Hainanese came to Singapore much later than the Hokkiens and Teochews who are already well entrenched in trade and commerce. Originally they also have problems communicating with other dialect groups as their language seems unintelligible to the others but they began to carve out a name for themselves working for wealthy Europeans including as canteen operators for military bases.  Hainanese are especially with food and beverage.
