Seasons In The Sun

I have childhood friend from the same primary school/class and who so happened to live in the same estate and sometimes when we meet, we will go climb up trees, probably a raintree and talked about all kinds of things over sandwiches even. This was a time remembered. Seasons come and go and all things shall come to pass - Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall as they would say but here we only have it wet or dry like our noodles. I was still a very young boy in lower primary and used to have to get up when it was still dark (we used to be an hour earlier before we adjust the clock to follow Malaysia). Mum would be the first person up preparing breakfast with hot drinks. If she hadn't turned on the radio then the neighbours would and these are the types of songs of the era: You know from the 50s? Bai Guang? Well, they were still playing it in the 60s. Nostalgic moments for sure if you are older than me.

Rediffusion was a very common and affordable means for folks to receive transmission on news, story-telling, stock indexes and songs and some channels have them all in dialects of Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese, etc. even for the commercials on TV back then. The English songs being aired were like:
Drifters- Under The Boardwalk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPoPMXY4Yyo

Beatles - Can't Buy Me Love:

Teeny bopper Agnes Chan with her melancholic voice serenaded me with songs like these at a time where boy/girl things were like so innocent since we don't even have facebook or mobile phones. I could not find the original album and search everywhere for the CD but to no avail and that includes all major CD stores where I asked them to enquire overseas. It drew a blank. Then one day I found it in Tampines.

Now, this song is so good I have to play it three times and get your registered on it. Carole King is just great. You take your pick.
James Taylor - You've Got A Friend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7RPCFfudmU

Terry Jacks' Seasons In The Sun really brings back memories: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd_Fdly3rX8, of sweet innocence.

How about this from Sha-Na-Na with Johnny Contardo and I have always love the way Bowzer looked and acted. Here's Those Magic Changes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWoyD5gtlWs

This friend who climbed trees with me back then is still around and still a friend. When he heard that I was writing a blog and calling it "Going To The Mountains", he really went to the mountains via the Silk Road and getting close the Everest as you can see here.

When I can't go to the mountains, he'd brought the mountain to me. There are just too many songs to share and enjoy together with you just at one go but music and songs define moments in life and moments in life help us with reminiscence of the hardship, the simple life and some glorious and memorable moments and that you have come a long way that you could never have imagined back then. Here's the Little River Band with Reminiscing:

I'll continue to share magic moments of songs and music. Moment by moment. We have joy we have fun, we have seasons in the sun but the trees that we climb were just seasons of our time. We have joy we have fun we have seasons in the sun but the stars that we reached were just starfish on the beach......
