EPL 2020/21 - Game Week 38

Image
Final week of EPL Game Week 38 of pandemic soccer. Ten games at the same time. How to surf?  City are already the champions, Sheffield United, Fulham and WBA were already relegated. The fight is on for top four finish as the last game of the season would be played at the same time on Sunday with some fans allowed back to the stadiums. Chelsea, Liverpool and Leicester - one of them have to miss out qualification for the Champions League. Chelsea are away to Aston Villa. Liverpool at home to Crystal Palace and Leicester at home to Tottenham. Whoever misses out could still go to the Europa as consolation if you do not mind. Who will get the sixth spot for a Europa slot? West Ham, Everton, Spurs? Even the honours for the Golden Boot will go to the last minute of the last game of the season as Harry Kane and Mohamedd Salah are tied at 22 goals. Kane will be facing Leicester and Salah, Crystal Palace. So too the top assist leader where again Harry Kane is leading with 13 assists, one mo...

EPL 2020/21 - Game Week 37

Wow! Oh wow!  The weekend started with Newcastle playing to  3-4 defeat to Champions City. The Magpies led, City equalized then City led and Newcastle levelled and led before City wrapped things up. Leeds romped to a 4-0 away win over Burnley. Southampton won 3-1 yet again against Fulham. West Ham lost ground with a 1-1 draw away to Brighton. Crystal Palace came back twice to level up then win the game 3-2 versus Aston Villa. Tottenham claimed a 2-0 win over Wolves and Liverpool wow oh wow came back from the dead to win 2-1 away to WBA with a 90+5 minute headed goal from goalkeeper Alisson Becker from a last chance corner. What drama! Everton were shocked 0-1 at Goodison Park by bottom club Sheffield United.  Manchester United v Fulham - Manchester United in 2nd place and in the final of the Europa should see Solskjaer keeping his job despite many who have written him off. I like this kind of story for the underdogs. United are no longer underdogs and they could bui...

EPL 2020/21 - Game Week 36

Congratulations to Manchester City! Newly crowned EPL Champions! Not every club that has limitless funds wins titles and or build a great team. You have to give it to Pep Guardiola and his players. They could now go on to become UCL Champions for the first time!  Game Week 36 means two more games to go and its curtains. It will mean a lot to every team albeit for different reasons. Relegations battle is over but top four are still up for grabs. The gap when all is over will be filled up with the delayed Euro 2020 in June 2021. Now for the Game Week 36 and then 37: Newcastle v Manchester City - The Magpies are completely safe and last week's 4-2 away win over Leicester was unexpectedly impressive. City's title celebration was postponed and delayed after they lost to Chelsea again and it seemed that only Tuchel can get the better of Guardiola. With the title sewn, will City exert themselves or preserve themselves so that their best team could be safe to face Chelsea in the Champ...

EPL 2020/21 - Game Week 35

The Manchester clubs are back, in the driving seat and very impressive. First and second in the Premier League, City are in the Champions League  Final for the first time after an impressive 2-1 away win over PSG and a home 2-0 win for a 4-1 overall win  and United took it farther with a 6-2 thumping of Roma and even as they lost 2-3, made it to the final on 8-5 aggregate . Arsenal on the other hand took a small tumble when they lost 1-2 at Villareal but have a valuable away goal but failed could only earned a 0-0 draw at the Emirates.  City will now meet Chelsea who  likewise overcame  Real Madrid with a 1-1 away game and a 2-0 win at home for a overall 3-1 win to set up an all English Champions League Final.  There is a 13 point gap between City and United which is probably too big to close even as United have a game in hand. City have already won the League Cup a record four times and still chasing the rest except the F.A. Cup. When they w...

EPL 2020/21 - Game Week 33

Will the proposed Super League eventually happen after talking for years? Rich clubs that were approached will fear missing out as permanent members. What if it really takes off and become a huge success? They will be left behind, be it more money or prestige. Even if your team finish at the bottom, it does not matter as they will not be relegated or miss qualification for the next season and the next ever after. As soccer fans or supporters of your club, would you like it? With it, domestic leagues will suffer in quality as stars will only play in the Super League. As it is, already all the super clubs are  gobbling up all the best and most expensive players further devaluating the quality every where else. Will clubs build better stadiums in future? Was it not wonderful to watch Leicester win the title? Atlanta or RB Leipzig playing and beating bigger teams in the Champions League? Why aren't the current Champions League and the Europa sufficient? The clubs want more mo...

EPL 2020/21 - Game Week 32

David Moyes, Thomas Tuchel and Sam Allardyce have been doing such a great job for their clubs but in the last two games, Allardyce and his boys were the best! The Baggies are anchored second from last. The 5-2 thrashing away to Chelsea and a home 3-0 trouncing of Southampton were nothing but brilliant. Will it be enough for Big Sam to keep them up? If only Sam has come earlier.  David Moyes has been brilliant throughout and bringing the Hammers up to 4th right now is no easy task. He is making West Ham rock. 7 games to go. How will it pan out this pandemic season? Everton v Spurs - Everton have to contend with injuries and their early season form seemed to have fizzled out. Dominic Calvert-Lewin's injury may have affected them but in their 0-0 draw to Brighton, they were being dominated by the Seagulls who had 55% of the ball and 23 shots to their 8. To make matters worse, they have not won in their last 5 games and lost 3 of them thus leaving them in 8th but with a...

EPL 2020/21 - Game Week 31

8 matches to go, no time and points to lose. Whatever your ambitions or lack of. The main question is not if but when Manchester City will lift the league title trophy following their 2-0 win at Leicester. Neighbour United's 2-1 win over Brighton kept them in second while Leicester remain third. Chelsea were stunned 2-5 by bottom dweller WBA at Stamford Bridge and stayed in fourth on 51 points, five behind Leicester. Tottenham were dismal as they let slip and drew 2-2 at Newcastle. Liverpool made the most of the situation to win impressively at Arsenal 3-0. Manchester United won 2-1 versus Brighton with a late winner from Mason Greenwood. While Everton were held 1-1 by Crystal Palace, West Ham shone once again in their best season yet with a fine 3-2 win over Wolves and who else was so brilliant but Jesse Lingard who scored first and provided an assist and makes you wonder why Solskjaer let him go. 8 games to go. Do or die.  Fulham v Wolves - Fulham crumbled 1-3 at Villa Park...
