Chef Kang - Wanton Noodle

Image
Chef Kang needs no introduction. His first restaurant was Canton Wok in Havelock, it later moved to Serangoon and Joo Chiat. It was at Serangoon when I first patronised.  Later, he ran a restaurant at McKenzie Road.  Since then I have read that he has weathered bankruptcy after several businesses in China  failed. He even fought cancer and prevailed. Chef Kang is an award-winning chef and now he is even Michelin-starred. I have heard that there is always a snaking queue at his wanton noodle stall at Jackson Square in Toa Payoh with a two-hour waiting time. That freaked me out.  I got to eat it because of special VIP delivery, thanks to my younger sister.I don't even have to order it. Lol. Despite the time taken for the journey and by the time I ate it. It was still good. Firstly, the  Char siew comes  in thicker slices not those of your usual thinly sliced ones. It has a fresh smoky flavour  and are fatty. The chye sim is soft and you could find the lard that came

I have an insatiable curiosity of a man's questing spirit of investigation but am totally aware that curiosity kills the cat. The search for knowledge is limitless and the search for excellence is a relentless pursuit. The hunger for good food insatiable and thirst unquenchable. I do not eat a lot but we either eat to live or live to eat for some. Part of the fun in anything is all about the hunt. Hunting for new golf equipment, hunting tor fishing spots and hunting for good places and good food. In big countries they hunt for animals as well. In ancient times, you are either a hunter or a gatherer. As a hunter, you need to be skilled with bow and arrows as well as riding a horse. If you can't do either, you go out to gather twigs for the fire. Gathering twigs is too boring for me so I hunted and found things and places. This was what I found. I am a hunter especially for new places and uniquely good food. So since 2018 till the present in 2019, I have hunt

UEFA Champions League Final - Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspurs

The UCL or UEFA Champions League was originally the European Cup. Back then, only the champions of each country qualified. No runners-up, third or fourth placed teams. In those days, there are no 'live' telecast of soccer matches. You only get hourly highlights of the previous week's matches for an hour and there were no European matches. Colour television only came in 1974 and it coincided with the World Cup in the then West Germany. We got to watch the Final "live" and in colour. West Germany in black and white and the Netherlands in orange and white. Wow!  At the time, the Europa was known as the UEFA Cup and were played over two legs.  It was not until 1977 that I got to watch the first European match 'live' from Stadio Olimpico in Rome. It was contested between Liverpool FC and Borussia Monchengladbach, the powerhouse German champions. Liverpool were the UEFA Cup champions in the 75/76 season but both sides were in the European Cup Final for the

EPL 2018/19 - End Game

Manchester City The season has ended. Congratulations to Manchester City, the best squad ever assembled in the history of the Premier League. They deserved the title. The scary part is that they could get even better and Pep Guardiola , a student of the great Johan Cruyff is a genius, a sort of Bruce Lee in the modern day art of soccer. Manchester City was once my adopted favourite second team and it was because of the soccer they play under Kevin Keegan (2001-2005). If you are a City fan then you ought to remember the names Eyal Berkovic and Ali Bernabia. City had just been relegated but Keegan brought them back as champions of the old Division One and became the first manager to win Division One titles with two different clubs. I was also like watching Keegan's Fulham team and especially Keegan's Newcastle with his signature style of swashbuckling and breathtaking soccer. It is unfortunate he did not become League Champions that year. They always say that people only reme
