Zai Sun - Fish, oh so steamed.

Lately I have a fetish for fish. Anything fish. Steamed, fried, grilled and even crumbs or floss. Just like beef, you want your best beef not well done or the chef will probably give you one that is about to expire and give it to you well done. So you want your best fish steamed. Many of your best friends are all steamy too with some stoned.

Zai Sun at Jurong East is well known to many so no intro is needed.

The thing you will notice is that fish is kind of expensive especially prize catch like Giant Garoupa aka as King Grouper or "Long Tan". Those of you who groups together are also grouper.

Isn't it a wonder that there are so many types of fish in the oceans and chefs and cooks across all nationalities and culture have honed their  culinary skills and expertise to give us the various ingredients and cooking methods to bring out the best in each fish. There are so many species of fish available for your selection all cut, sliced, packed and ready to go.

Just feel your inner yearning and make a choice and of course with such fresh quality you must have them steamed usually in Teochew style or Hong Kong style.

Otherwise, if you are the indecisive type, leave it to someone else to make the orders.

The fun is intensified and experience heightened when you join the selection process just like an interview and like I have often said, the slow learners end up in your dinner plates.

Here, they have a drink that I savoured - the mighty soursop drink. I have yet to find one as good as the soursop that once operated at the hawker centre Gleneagles Hospital near Botanic Gardens. But this one is good enough.

There are other dishes if  you like.

Here it comes, steaming hot... a good portion of Red Garoupa.

Followed by Pomfret.

You can't eat like this for the same price at a restaurant. But then to travel to Jurong just for a fish lunch may be a rare occurrence I must admit even if Jurong is quite happening now.

Once upon a time, I was told that birds don't even lay eggs there. I found them caged. You must be wondering what has it got to do with birds. We are eating fish not birds.

You see, I went to the washroom and heard someone talking and so I got out to check and found this African Grey Parrot or Psittacus Erithacus. These birds can speak like a human.

Are you free as a bird or caged? It need not be a physical cage. Mental cage is bad enough. So think out of the cage and be free as a bird.

"If I leave here tomorrow would you still remember me? For I must be travelling on now, cause there's too many places I've got to see...cause I am free as a bird now..." - Lynyrd Skynyrd.

You know that since ancient times, Chinese people eat everything. They are animal lovers because they think animals are delicious. Their scientific name is ''Eatus Anythingus".
