Wilson Staff DX3

Big name sportsmen get paid big bucks because people like to ape success. Tiger get paid millions by Nike and David Beckham too by Gillette or for Armani undies. We are suppose to look suave like Beckham if we wear Armani undies. You are not a real success until you drive a Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus or Jaguar. I was told a story where a lady wanted the fruit stall to sell her some "jaguar juice" which turned out to be "guava juice".

Many golf manufacturers make very good clubs and equipment. For example, Titleist is some kind of an icon for golf balls in particular the Titleist Pro V 1 and the Pro V 1 x. People used to ask me why don't I use them and I used to joke that the only Pro V that I use is the Pantene Pro V shampoo to wash away those tiny sand particles trapped in my hair after a solid and explosive bunker shot. Well, I do have some actually but I use them sparingly simply because they are very costly maybe like $7-8 a pop and we can send it to its watery grave with a single futile attempt. If money is no object go ahead make your day. Otherwise, it may be wise to save it for a day when you game is approaching royalty. The only other reason is that the ball is made for the best strikers with a requirement for the right spin and trajectory and distance. If you have already summon all your great skills and yet can't spin the ball on the short grass of the green to make it spin, bite and stop then there is no point. It's like driving a 5.0 litre Bentley at 20kmh and then you see an old man speeding and overtaking you on a bicycle showing you his centre finger.

There are two ways to get around. One is to go for that same brand but for those balls just somewhere below their top ones like the NXT Tour followed by others like NXT Xtreme (distance) or DT Solo (soft and long) since the same technology is kind of like pass down the models over time. It is like the older cars where you have little features but now you can get one less than 2.0 litre where you are given ABS brakes, climate control and auto-senser wiper, etc. The other is to look for similar material, built and performance rating like a three piece ball. A different brand can offer you a similar product at a better price point. One of these to explore is the Wilson Staff DX3.

Wilson is a sports good manufacturer that is popular with their range of golf clubs and accessories. They have a Trade mark slogan which goes "As Long As Anything, Softer Than Everything." for their Wilson Staff golf balls built on a low-compression platform, featuring ultra-soft, high velocity cores for the softest feel without sacrificing distance. They claimed to have a new breakthrough in Traction Control Technology to deliver excellent performance on the modern day's aggressive grooves and yet superior performance on 2010's less aggressive grooves.

The low compression construction deforms a golf ball over a larger area of the club face therefore, creating a higher surface contact area delivering 17% higher surface contact. The softer, high-friction cover blends more efficiently when engaging the grooves translating into more spin off the club face. As a result, as much as 13% more of the grooves are engaged during impact.

The Wilson Staff DX3 Soft is the softest high-spin multi-layer ball in golf. Accordingly, it features great driver distance coupled with higher spin off scoring clubs especially wedges for the best shot-stopping ability on greens. It is made with a 3-piece soft Ionomer. The softest core in the game today utilizes advancement in rubber chemistry to maintain high initial velocity while the speed-generating HPF mantle encases the low compression core to generate higher spin.

Finally, the thin responsive cover delivers soft feel with maximum durability and improved scruff-resistance. It comes with PhD aerodynamics with large flat-bottomed shallow dimples to deliver a stable and penetrating flight. On the C:25, traction control integrates with the thin urethane to generate the highest spin possible off club faces especially for clubs with 25 degrees of loft or more for ultimate shot-making and scoring.

The best thing about these balls? The current price. Retailing at $78 at one time and now going for half the price may be worth a shot and a spin. Why? Because normally three-piece construction balls cost a lot more. At this point, it is a good as the Singapore Armed Forces - everything is tip top but still unproven (I haven't tried it) as it has never gone to war but something this good and proficient, you know it will come good!
