Callaway Chrome Soft And TruVis Golf Ball

Another year has quickly gone by. Even the Lunar New Year has come and gone. Prior to that I managed to squeeze in a game and the wonderful buggy man at the club has so kindly shown his thoughtfulness by issuing a buggy with the number "88". It was a good gesture even though I am not a numbers man nor superstitious. It was his thought of a double prosperity. This is what quality service is all about - a little thought and a little touch.

This time of the year you will have many friends who would send you horoscope. I call them horror scope. Put it this way, most people have an average life and in life there will be ups and downs. The horrible scope will say which signs are good and which bad for the year. I have observed for so many years, those who are supposed to have good or bad generally have an average year. Some who are supposed to have good year turned out bad and vice versa. If a person fell and scratched his knees, is it good or bad? It is good because you did not cracked your head. As for me, it is rather simple. I accept everything that comes along and I do not rate them. If it is good, we should just feel grateful and if not so good, we just have to overcome them. Who Dares Wins.

We need balls to play you know what I mean. I am going to discuss balls.
How many dimples does a golf ball has? The dimples are usually of the same size but in some golf balls, they actually have several different sizes on the ball. Any number from 300 to 500 is considered standard with 33 6 dimples being fairly common. The usual range is between 250 to 450 but there have even been those with more than a thousand. Titleist Pro V1 for example is a three piece ball with 352 dimples while the Pro V 1X is a four piece ball with 328.

Dimples on a golf ball are there to create turbulent of air that clings to the ball's surface. Today's trend is towards balls with larger dimples. Larger dimples means lesser dimples in order to achieve high launch and low spin. Golf balls with urethane cover usually cost more while those with surlyn ionomer cover are at a cheaper price point.

I don't know about you but I will always play attacking golf because in sports it takes balls to play. In soccer, I only like attacking teams. What is the point if you are afraid to play. Play with style and win in style.

I like it when golf clubs give me a wet cloth to clean the ball so that you could remove all kinds of particles on your ball before you putt. There were a couple of times where a buggy mate do not even have his personal bag cloth and immediately after hitting an ugly shot with chunks of mud in his club head just used my bag cloth to wipe the mud off. What inconsiderate persons! After hitting, you should dip your club head into the washer unit attached on your buggy then you use that cloth attached to the golf bag to dry it. I do not want mud and soil on my bag or cloth and carry them to my car and house and I do not have a helper to wash and clean after me.

Some day I am going to try these Dragon balls. Was told that the are extremely long. Could they possibly be illegal? They were a gift.

When I started golf, I would get used balls as they are the cheapest. Then later new logo balls given by friends were precious.

Many folks would buy balls based on the brand name without really knowing why or the history and stories behind each.

Recently, I believed I found an excellent ball at a lower price point. Bang for you bucks. Callaway Chrome Soft (below). There is the Chrome Soft and the Chrome Soft X just like the others such as Titleist Pro V1 (90 compression) and Pro V 1X (100). Chrome Soft has 75 compression and Chrome Soft X 90. The X version is for golfers with swing speed of 105 mph or more that is why it has a firmer compression and feel. Do not get the wrong ones as most do not have that swing speed. The Callaway Chrome Soft golf ball has 300 over dimples. Please note the below photo is just an illustration of the golf ball. I was not charging its battery. It has no battery. Do not be an idiot. Haha.

Now, Callaway has the ball that is second in popularity to the Titleist Pro V1. It's like Liverpool and Manchester City in the league and than the other teams. The Chrome Soft and its X version are four-piece balls. Golf may look a simple game but it is not so easy and there are lots of science and engineering in it. In the ball's outer core, it has a wonder material that is a big thing and it is called 'graphene' - the strongest material on planet earth. Amazingly, it is not only strong but lightweight and flexible. This helps to make a ball that has soft feel and yet producing more speed. Callaway hired a former ball boy from Nike called Rock Ishii. Okay not ball boy but ball specialist who likes to innovate balls with new materials. Then there is the Chrome Soft TruVis. OK, now you can go to the toilet. Let's take it as a commercial break.

Callaway Chrome Soft - TruVis.

What is this? TruVis. TruVis means True Vision. For those who love soccer and golf, this may be your dream come true.

The dimples re not circular but has HEX aerodynamics and the softest feel from the Dual SoftFast Core.

This ball is created to provide distance for the long clubs and control off the short clubs with spin for increased green side control from the Ultra-thin Urethane cover.

It has the combination for a soft feel, long distance and mid-level ball flight and designed to elevate speed.

According to Srixon, yellow golf balls are three times easier to spot from a distance of 250 yards and is considered excellent for tracking and visibility against green grass. It is not necessary for snow play. That is the reason why you can have yellow balls too.

When Callaway created the TruVis, even some people in the company thinks its a fad. Is it a gimmick? Some years ago, Callaway President Chip Brewer called for a meeting and announced that they were going to be making the TruVis golf balls. They decided reluctantly to make the Truvis golf ball just so as to keep the boss happy but till today, they have not just not gone away but became so successful they are getting more popular. For those of you who still know not, these golf balls are made with patterns on them that made them look like a soccer ball.

They got so popular they have to get new machines to make more in order to cope with the demand. Hence, Callaway TruVis golf balls were launched into their Chrome Soft franchise which became hands down the most successful golf ball in their history.

The Chrome Soft was already very popular, so when TruVis was added as an option they became even more so. So why is Truvis so popular? They give a true vision of the movement and depth of perception of the movement of a golf ball due to its symmetrical patterns. Callaway golf ball director said that it is easier to see and follow it when it is in the air and also to to find it on the fairways or rough and also to differentiate from you group. You can also see the ball spin and that gives golfers feedback on performance.

The brighter and bolder colour stands out a lot more than other colours especially the red with white. Do you agree? It was claimed that they also help with alignment after they have tested and evaluated so many different colours.

Now compare the top view of these balls. The white (left) and TruVis (right). TruVis is supposed to make the ball look bigger and inspire confidence at address. You could try it by putting your golf club beside it to see the difference. This is just basically an optical illusion as the balls are exactly the same in size.

You know, in life, people who are loud and like to raise their voice are weak and insecure not strong. Some of the softest substance are the hardest and vice versa. Bamboos do not break against the wind. Real men do cry, they are not weak. Think Tai-Chi or Aikido in martial arts.

So when Callaway created a ball and called it Chrome Soft in 2018, it is anything but weak. The material used is the strongest known to man and yet it could stretch and it is 200 times stronger than steel and is also stronger than diamonds. The material is called Graphene and it  was invented in 2004. Some shaft makers are already using it now. I think the Aldila Synergy shaft has it if I am not wrong. Graphene is used as the outer layer of the core of the Chrome Soft.

You can use this ball to confuse your friends. Evil friends can even form a wall to block you as in soccer. With friends like these, you don't need enemies.

Do you remember Caddy Shack? Ty Webb said that "There is a force in the universe that makes things happen and all you have to do is get in touch with it. Stop thinking, let things happen and be the ball".

I like the Chrome Soft, Truvis or not. It is an excellent golf ball.
Golf as in life, play as it lies.
