EPL 2014/15 - Game Week 3

After two rounds, I formed my opinion on who could be champions though the season is still young. Things of course could evolve and change but there are some glaring signs... Burnley v Man Utd - David Moyes is laughing. He actually did better than Louis van Gaal. Losing the opening match at home, drawing the next match and then got unceremoniously dumped by MK Dons (formerly Wimbledon) who are two leagues below them. Now LVH said he probably needs a year. That Burnley no matter how determined will struggle is without a doubt but they are at home to a struggling Man Utd both looking for a first win. Utd has become worse than average and must be relieved to be facing Burnley and there is no better time to face them than now for the home team. After spending something like 30 million pounds each for Herera, Luke Shaw, Fellaini, 40m on Juan Mata and now 60m on Angel Di Maria Utd have joined the ranks of Chelsea and Man City as big spenders. The Red Devils must win their next match to ...

Singapore Monitor - August

I am not sure if I could give the title as Singapore Monitor anymore because the more I write about issues of life the more I find that wherever you may be, whatever your station in life, whichever period you may be in, however you are, we the human race are always in the same boat going on a journey but yet instead of pulling together we go in different direction because of pride, ego and selfishness. Not until a super storm that threatens to destroy all asunder on the boat do we wake up and begin to realise we have to overcome together like the Brotherhood of Man. Even if we have the brotherhood of man, there will be someone who will seize power, take all the money and manipulate. Life is indeed so fragile and unpredictable and we are all subjected to the vagaries of life bar none but yet many live recklessly. An old friend of mine recently read about Robin Williams and said to me that from what he read he saw quite a high percentage of the personality in me. I was wondering if ...

EPL 2014/15 - Game Week 2

If you like me have watched most of the opening day matches, you will probably have an idea how the season may pan out. The top teams got results as expected save for Manchester United. The other teams including the smaller ones did exceptionally well even some did not get their desired result. They played with fervour and purpose. However, the season has just begun and may struggle later on. The transfer window is still open so there are still businesses to be done. How will this weekend matches unfold? Villa v Newcastle - Very few teams can go to the Britannia and get a result against Stoke. Given their dismal form last season and turmoil of the club being sold, Villa, a once great European Champion achieved the unexpected and this will inspire them somewhat with a good start. The Magpies whose second half last season was nothing but a downward free fall actually played well when they hosted Man City. If they could play like that often they should have a reasonably good season ...

The Four Temperaments

Recently, Robin William's passing left many stunned and saddened. How could one who seemed so jovial and could make so many people happy and laugh at the drop of a hat could feel depressed and ended his life? I will not venture to speculate here as I have awesome respect for the man. RIP. Sometimes, people laugh to forget their misfortune or suffering. They could simply be masking themselves. Why should they let others know their problems? It would be too embarrassing to share such an issue.  Even if they know, they would not be able to help. Those who make others laugh are often the most suffered lot because there is no one to make them laugh. All the world is a fruit cake, it would not be complete without some nuts in it. While some people take life too seriously, others live theirs as a warning to others. We have different characters and personalities. Folks who have few friends either do not need more friends or are just comfortable with that few or friends j...

EPL 2014/15 Game Week 1

Three months has quickly gone by and the World Cup too and many things have since happened. The EPL is back this weekend. Who are the usual suspects you think will win it and who are dropping at the end of the season? Manchester City will defend their crown which they won as Liverpool fell towards the end last season and have changed little. They looked insipid when they lost in the Charity Shield but were without their most senior regular players. City should be considered one of the favourites. I tell you it is easier to win than to win again. Sagna, Fernando and Mangala were key additions. Liverpool will be without their biggest bite Luis Suarez so will they be the same? They have spent almost 100 million pounds but still could not get a top striker to replace Suarez. The top strikers do not think Liverpool a top club? Brendan Rodgers must prove them wrong. Can so many new players gel? Did Rodgers buy the players that fit his system and now have a deeper squad which they d...

Handle Bar

Image
No matter how busy we are, it is always good to come together for a meal especially with family, extended family and friends. This is something that seems simple enough to organise but if you have been around organising things you know that there will be often times where folks could not make it. Getting together is one thing but finding a good or unique location and good food is another. Human enterprise can be mind-boggling and our search for a "never been there" place led us to the end of the earth. If Singapore is the earth, then Sembawang is the end of the earth. Like the gospel that will reach the ends of the earth, we got to Sembawang. There is an open space where you can park your cars and if you are a biker then there is no better place as you can ride straight into the place and showcase your bikes.  There is a reason why this place is called the "Handle Bar". Several Harley Davidson were already parked there for us to og...
