World Cup 2014 - Players To Watch

Image
Last week I gave you the World Cup teams and who are the favourites and scores prediction and as to who are likely to go through:  http://gforce-guru.blogspot.sg/2014/06/world-cup-2014-favourites.html This week it is all about the players but f irst, the World Cup theme songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGtWWb9emYI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWgpYMCe548 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjfWuHMSZg8 Will Qatar World Cup 2022 be rescinded? What a sham! They should then award China to be the host and bring soccer to the masses. China has done a wonderful job for the Olympics so the World Cup is just another feather on the cap. It is not just China, it would be for Asia and we will be watching televised matches in our own time zone. Can you imagine a World Cup without Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Zidane, Ronaldo (Brazil), Ronaldinho, Romario, etc.? For the current day, imagine one without Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and some others? The injury list lengthens as the World Cup...

World Cup 2014 - The Favourites

Image
This is why we love the World Cup - the world coming together as one: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=731019560273971&set=vb.266828596693072&type=2&theater In Brazil, nobody works for a month. Singapore should host the World Cup so you and I can rest for a month. Mirror mirror on the wall, who are the favourites among them all? Firstly, what are the ingredients needed to be considered as favourites? (1) Host country - home ground advantage , (2) Climate - temperatures, altitude in the same continent, (3) Form - how have they been performing?, (4) Quality of the team - that should include strength in depth, (5) Tradition - historical record at the World Cup.  My prediction as follows (Teams in bold to qualify). I expect the opening matches to be slow affairs as teams get acclimatised and begin by sizing up one another. There could be many draws or small margin wins. By the second match, teams will know what kind of result they ne...

Singapore Mirror (May) - Take A Look At Ourselves

Image
Many people would be scared if  they saw in the mirror, not their faces but their character. Therefore, we will need to see that Man in the mirror - up close and personal for the character. I am talking about you! This is why Singapore and the world needs a mirror not for Narcissus to fall in love with himself but to see our character and reflect on our thoughts. Singaporeans Fare Poorly In Spoken English?  Is it our education system? Our culture unfortunately has low tolerance for failure and/or rejection. Edison learnt 9,999 ways how not to build a light bulb. If he were Singaporean, we will still be living in the dark. So too, Newton whose life could have been quite different if the apple there became a durian here. We need more visionary leaders and companies built to last. Here is a song for the weekend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Uh2G7WoXsU (Built To Last - Melee)  Do we still have critical life skills, original thoughts, ideas and the abil...

The Story Of My (Working) Life

Image
If you have read this somewhere before, read it again. Last December, my company celebrated its 40th Anniversary in Singapore (since 1973). It was just a small office with a Representative and his secretary . Those days, most businesses were represented by general agencies. I came on board when the company was fully incorporated eight years later and naturally I have inadvertently became a pioneer not just in the organization but also in the industry. We have now grown into several companies in the group employing hundreds of people. Just wondering if I'll get a "Pioneer Package". I was invited to give my two cents worth about my views and to share my experience with colleagues in our special newsletter. What they did not know was they were inviting a monster to write as I could practically write non-stop especially to tell a complete story - the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I wanted to share a story that could be simple and yet interesting because in d...
