EPL 2020/21 - Game Week 21

Manchester City are up where they belong! Manchester United and the other chasing pack should not be looking at Liverpool but Pep Guardiola's team. Game Week 20's opener saw West Ham went up to 4th with a 3-2 away win over Crystal Palace. Arsenal roared back with a 3-1 win away to Southampton - not an easy feat to go up to 10th but level on points with Chelsea in 9th with the latter under new manager Thomas Tuchel drew 0-0 with Wolves. Everton's 1-1 draw with Leicester and the shocker where in-form Manchester United lost 1-2 to bottom team Sheffield United who do not have a single win by the first half of the season. All this benefitted Manchester City the most as they went on a rampage at the Hawthorns with a 5-0 routing of WBA. Some of my Manchester United fan friends  got carried away when Liverpool lost to Burnley. They ridiculed Liverpool with jokes of a lady asking online if anyone could recommend a quiet fan to use as the ones she has were noisy and a guy replied tha

The half-time report after 19 games in this pandemic season reads: (1) Manchester United - 40 points, (2) Manchester City - 38 points with 2 games in hand, (3) Leicester - 38, (4) Liverpool - 34, (5) Tottenham - 33 with 1 game in hand, (6) Everton 32 with 2 games in hand, (7) West Ham - 32, (8) Aston Villa - 29 with 2 games in hand, (9) Chelsea - 29, (10) Southampton - 29 with 1 game in hand. Arsenal are in 11th. City will be top if they win both games in hand and Tottenham, Everton, and Aston Villa will go up above Liverpool if they win their games in hand and the Reds will be down to 7th. The Red Devils are very much in form, City are looking good again, Leicester are keeping the pace, Tottenham are still solid if less spectacular, so do Everton, West Ham and Southampton. Only Liverpool and Chelsea's form are worrying. Liverpool are off their perch and have their 68 game unbeaten run at fortress Anfield ended. They have not won in five matches and have not scored a goal in four l

Manchester United are top of the league (36 points) and three points clear of Liverpool (33 points)! For the first time for a long time and will this be their season amid the pandemic? Next trip to Anfield will be a cruncher since another win would bring them six points clear and if Liverpool were to win then the Reds will reclaim the leadership but it is not so simple this season as you can see.  Manchester City (with a game in hand) are on 32 points and strongly back in contention.  Leicester (4th) and Everton (5th) are on 32 points, Tottenham are on 30 and even Southampton are on 29 points and Aston Villa have 26 points (with 2 games in hand). Chelsea have dropped the most in 9th with 26 points, same as West Ham (10th). My sons' friend bought me this lovely Christmas present - a magazine that captured Liverpool's glorious season in 2019/2020 that gives you every detail and every match of the historic season! Thanks! This is Game Week 19, which brings the season to almost the

"You'll Never Walk Alone!" Or simply "YNWA!" is the anthem of Liverpool FC and the words became famous in the 60s till now. The iconic song is the most famous in the football world. The original tune was written for a musical called Carousel in the mid-40s and have seen various cover versions that followed. The one dearest to Liverpool FC was released by Gerry and the Pacemakers in 1963. The band/group was led by and named after their lead singer Gerry Marsden. Those days the music scene was dominated by Liverpool. Think the Beatles. Gerry and the Pacemakers found themselves in the UK charts Top Ten for ten weeks and four of it at number one. LFC played it for the first time in a 1963 match against WBA and since cemented in the hearts of the Kops all over the world. This is a song to turn to during the darkest storms, when you look to triumph over adversity and these are words to live by in life as well! Of course Gerry Marsden was a Scouser and lifelong Liverpo

Wishing all good health, a Happy and Prosperous New Year! Everton v Manchester City was postponed after a number of City players tested positive for Covid. Tottenham's clash with Fulham too. With this terrible Covid coming back with vengeance, will the Premier League be able to continue? Will the season be declared null and void sometime in the near future if the virus cannot been contained? There are 18 new cases in the EPL.  Game Week 17 beings 2 January on Saturday. Champions and leaders Liverpool are slogging as if through thick snow. The slew of critical injuries to many key players especially at centre backs have been huge blows. Fabinho has adapted by switching to VVD's role so well and youngsters Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Philips has done well too but the cocky confidence seemed to be missing as they have to play somewhat differently. The front three so often the bane of opposing defence have been less clinical, quite often wasteful and even off colour at times. Every
