EPL 2019/20 - Game Week 14

Jose Mourinho is back with a bang as Tottenham for the first time since four league matches ago and have not won away for a long time. Mauricio Pochettino is a great coach and shall succeed elsewhere. He was made for Tottenham and has helped them to over-achieve  but something went amiss. Perhaps he wanted to strengthen his squad but became frustrated and he let it affect his players. He may have lost his team towards the end. It was a much improved display from Spurs as they raced to a 3-0 lead but there must be question marks as they allowed West Ham to nearly complete a comeback. Meanwhile, Pochettino's dismissal has implications at other clubs notably Manchester United and Arsenal. At one time he was much wanted by the Red Devils, so Solskjaer's job be at risk now? Unai Emery is now struggling, will he be a great fit for the Gunners? Other managers in danger are West Ham's Manuel Pelligrini and conspicuously Marco Silva at Everton for their poor performances and resul

EPL 2019/20 - Game Week 13

We are taking the international break due to EURO 2002 Qualifications. Trouble brewed over from that weekend match between Liverpool and Manchester City and turned into a Sterling/Gomez fracas. Gareth Southgate has chosen to be transparent and also decided to drop Raheem Sterling for England's home match against Montenegro. He has already been accused from both sides - one for being overly harsh and the other for being too lenient. For me, Southgate showed courage and leadership and in doing the right thing. For being transparent and up front, he has prevented more speculation. Do you believe that something happened somewhere and nobody will know? He is too intelligent for that. In fact, every word uttered by him is intelligent. You can read about what he said yourself.  Rio Ferdinand said that in his time, "players got punched, ribs broken, nose busted and heads kicked like a football". Really? He also said that Southgate should have handled it internally. Sterling is

EPL 2019/20 - Game Week 12

Game Week 11 What drama unfolded in Game Week 11! Beginning with Bournemouth's 1-0 win over Manchester United moving them up to 7th. It was not unexpected but it would not look nice if I predicted the Red Devils' demise every week and I thought they might have turned the corner recently. To add salt into wound, goal-scorer Joshua King was once with United. How did he find all the time in the world when he chested the ball, lifted it over Aaron Wan-Bissaka and did a half bicycle kick to smash home and thus sending the Red Devils to 10th and mid-table mediocrity.  Arsenal have real problems and they are not solving it quite soon as they allowed Wolves to find their way back. New captain Granit Zhaka was not even named in the squad let alone the first XI. There are rumours swirling that the Gunners are in talks with Jose Mourinho. Unai Emery has not been better than Arsene Wenger at his worst.  Leaders Liverpool and champions Manchester City showed they are humans after all

EPL 2019/20 - Game Week 11

Game Week 10 was quite dramatic. It began with something special. Only done once before - a 9-0 victory but Leicester made it one better as it was the biggest away win ever in the Premier League. When was the last time you heard of two players in the winning team that each scored a hattrick? Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez did that! The Foxes are on Cloud Nine! Either Southampton was terrible or Leicester were very good. Probably both.  Aston Villa did very well to hold Manchester City 0-0 at half-time. Raheem Sterling continued his hot streak for club and country when he scored just after the beginning of the second half. Then the same old thing happened. City cruised to 3-0. Chelsea got their seventh win in all competition. Playing away is no problem for Lampard's boys as they hammered Burnley 4-2. They were leading 4-0 but their bad habits of conceding late returned. Christian Pulisic who struggled to adjust the the league not only came good. He was stupendous and deservedly s
