EPL 2016/17 - Game Week 10

Sunderland v Arsenal - The last and worst team versus the top, well the Gunners are second but only by goal difference of a goal. But hey this is the EPL where the weakest team can some day do a giant killing act. There have already been surprises but Sunderland are already in slumber land as they have last won many matches in a league cup and are bottom with only two points so how many matches have they won? They have been doing so badly that there are rumours of Sam Allardyce coming back to rescue them once more. Arsenal must be equally disappointed with their home draw against Mee Rebus, I mean Middlesborough but the Ah Beng say mee rebus. Former Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes and the visitors kept them at bay. While the Black Cats are capable of making it a tough and physical battle, Arsenal should be smelling blood to give Wenger a belated birthday present that they failed to deliver at home last week. 0-2 . Manchester United v Burnley - At one time, this would be a relativ...

EPL 2016/17 - Game Week 9

The previous week I predicted 100% scores in four out of five matches on a Saturday. Well, that was 80% of all matches that day. This could happen when all the stars align themselves so it could be once in ten of fifty years.  Last week, we saw some great goal keeping heroics. Starting with Joe Hart for England who made a couple of world class saves in particular the one where he dived to reach the far left top corner and with his strong left hand pushing the ball to the underside of the cross bar and while the ball in that split second was still dipping down and going in, his right hand made sure it didn't. Never seen a save like that before. (He has even landed on support base of the goal post and got injured.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J0mK51muxc (Hart saves) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3OTfzEce4k I knew Burnley have a good goal keeper and when he was playing in the lower division, he was sometimes selected for England. This season, I saw him made many good sav...

Uggli Muffins

There are hawkers and there are hawkers. There are some folks who gave up a well paying job to be hawkers. They have their reasons for it I am sure. Whatever reasons there are, they are to be respected. Others may really be pursuing a passion. Some people may say when you are hungry you cannot eat passion.  Many of the world's most successful people are those who pursue a passion, went through tremendous hardship and later realised their dreams and their beliefs. They were not there thinking of making money and getting rich. They probably do not know that they could get so successful at the beginning.  The words here are ''pursuing their passion'', ''dreams'', ''beliefs" and ''tremendous hardship''. The most important of all is the hardship part and ''grit''. Grit is about courage and resolve, strength of character. Many want to have the kind of success but how many have ''true grit'' ...

Ace Ban Mian

Image
I found quite a gem at a new coffee shop nearby at Upper Serangoon View. At the end of Upper Serangoon Road and across the junction of Hougang Ave 7 where there are new condos and HDB apartments there is some interesting places at and around Block 476. Nestled at a NTUC food court, there is a stall "Ace Ban Mian". Not every one who call themselves Ace are really aces. Where ban mian is concerned, it is now kind of like a staple food where it is found in almost every coffee shop or food court. There are a few more famous and popular ones that cost a little more and they probably taste better because they simply use better ingredients or give you more ingredients. I find that Ace Ban Mian looks interesting and different and there is often a queue.  Two items stand out from its menu.  A mushroom version comes complete with abalone mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms and enoki mushrooms which is fabulous. Most people should like this. This is a winner! For me a...

EPL 2016/17 - Game Week 8

I guess all the managers were right about Rooney. From Sir Alex, David Moyes, to Louis van Gaal to Jose Mourinho, from Roy Hodgson to Sam Allardyce and now Gareth Southgate - no one has dropped Rooney. They liked him, believe in him, I could understand but now only Mourinho has decided to drop him after much pressure but Southgate did England a big disfavour by continuing the silly policy of Roy and Sam when they have a chance to change thing for the better. This is like a business organisation that has employed someone who was once good but was a long time ago no longer good but no one wish to be the one who make that decision.  I applaud Southgate for giving Jesse Lingard his debut but why did he use the opportunity to play Marcus Rashford or Michail Antonio? The worst fear was seeing Rooney on the team sheet. Yes, he is England.s best all time goal scorer, record caps, blah, blah, blah but thank you. You are not doing the right thing for him if you truly respect him. It rem...

Soya Sauce Chicken

Every country has their chickens and they eat them their way. If you take away the fast food types and the restaurants, we have very good chickens from the chicken rice hawkers that the Michelin people do not know. Every Singaporean has their personal favourite too from Wee Nam Kee to Lee Fun Nam Kee, from Tian Tian to Chin Chin, from Kamoung Chicken to Boon Tong Kee, from Chen Ji (Tanglin Halt) to Uncle Chicken (Simpang Bedok),  from Yeo Keng Nam (Braddell) to Pow Sing, from Yet Con to Loy Kee and from Sin Kee (ex Margaret Drive) to Sergeant. There are actually many very good chicken rice that could be found at neighbourhood HDB coffee shops. I know some and a very good one at Serangoon. Singapore should be the chicken rice capital of the world. Okay, let's not be too boastful, just say another top hub - chicken rice hub. There are stalls that just have steamed version or roast chicken and yet a few that sells soya sauce chicken. The latter has the fewest as most are either w...
